Beloved emo rock icons Say Anything emerged from hiatus last Friday for their first show in nearly five years. Say Anything are back together and have released a brand new track, “Psyche!” Today. They are a band that have always done things differently than everyone else. They stuck out like a sore thumb in the scene since their inception in a beautifully unique and transparently broken way. This post tugs at my heart-strings and is going to be hard to write. A band that many of us grew up with, have shared tears of joy and pain, danced with and screamed our lungs out to, Say Anything – is saying good-bye. At least, for now. Say Anything is a band that you can’t appropriately compare to any other band. Perhaps you could attempt to use metrics like ticket sales or song charting, but certainly not in any tangible sense of emotion, delivery, or downright weirdness. Say Anything kicked the doors down when they entered the scene with a huge “Fuck You” to any preconceived notion of what a “punk” or “emo” band should be.
