MTV Picks Up Second Season of 'Newlyweds'

They’re not newlyweds anymore, but Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson are coming back for a second season of “Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica” on MTV.

New episodes of the reality series are scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. EST Jan. 21.

The first season followed the pop stars from their October 2002 wedding through the beginning of their life together, and became hugely popular thanks to Simpson’s frequent goofy-blonde gaffes.

Right afterward, at 10:30 p.m. EST, MTV will air the debut of “‘Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen & Dave,” about the months leading up to the wedding of Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro.

The former “Baywatch” actress and the Jane’s Addiction guitarist married Nov. 22 in Los Angeles in a ceremony that called for guests to wear “hot and sexy” attire.

“‘Newlyweds,’ which kicked off with Nick and Jessica’s traditional, fairy-tale wedding, struck a chord with our viewers,” Lois Curren, executive vice president of MTV series entertainment, said Friday. “When we heard that Carmen and Dave were getting married and planning a provocative nontraditional wedding, we thought the two shows would make a perfect match.”
