Knox Is The Next Big Indie Popstar

Nashville-based indie pop artist, Knox exploded onto the scene in late 2022 with his song “Sneakers“. An instant viral hit, the track gained over 2 million views overnight on TikTok before amassing nearly 30 million streams to date. It was an impressive introduction to say the least, but no one can accuse him of being a one-hit-wonder. He inked a deal with Barbershop Records and Atlantic Records after demanding their attention with his obviously captivating songwriting abilities. Knox quickly followed up his massive first single with a string of popular follow-ups, including “I Don’t Wanna Know,” “Love Letter,” and “Dumpster Fire,” before releasing his highly acclaimed debut EP, How To Lose A Girl In 7 Songs earlier this year.

Knox has been on a steady upwards trajectory. This year saw him gain even more traction with his tune, “Not The 1975,” and ultimately the release of his second effort, I’m So Good At Being Alone?. He certainly knows how to produce an insanely catchy and universally lovable song, but his live performances manage to take his allure to a whole new level. Knox has toured with the likes of Boys Like Girls, The Band CAMINO, Nightly, and even crushed a headlining run.

Knox has totally found his niche and it is working. While he was in middle school, he mentions that most of his friends were really getting into artists like Drake and Lil Wayne. While he admits he went through a similar phase, he was much more interested in the soundtrack to High School Musical. This world of upbeat, power pop tracks blended with his similar love for artists like Fall Out Boy and Ed Sheeran. Gravitating towards a beautifully mixed interest in alternative rock and standard pop, it allowed him to experiment with genre-crossing and find his own unique sound that lives somewhere in between.

“Song writing is such a weird thing, it is almost indescribable,” he shares. “I never just sit down and think, ‘what’s this idea going to be today?’ It is just something that makes sense and it is a very natural thing.”

Knox sat down with our very own Nick Major, Katie Leclerc, and Fish to chat about his recent performance at the Fonda in Los Angeles. Nick Major and Knox then dive into his entire journey. From meeting the wonderful Ed Sheeran, to writing songs for John Harvie, Arrows In Action, and Games We Play, to his recent hit “Girl On The Internet,” and more. Make sure to watch the entire interview to fall in love with Knox as an artist, if you haven’t already.
