Jhariah Talks His Anthemic Sophomore Album, ‘Trust Ceremony’

Jhariah interview

Musician and artist Jhariah recently stopped by the idobi Radio Studios to chat with Fish on Gone Fishkin about his newest album, TRUST CEREMONY. The pair also discussed the major influences behind Jhariah’s music, his progression as an artist, and how music serves as a full-circle reflection on his creative process and progress.

Favorite artists and sounds influenced the outcome of his sophomore album, an album five years in the making. Jhariah emphasizes the impact of J-Rock (Japanese Rock) as a significant inspiration to the sound on the album, as well as emo classics close to his heart, such as My Chemical Romance. Although it may be his second album, Jhariah has been a musician for the past seven years: “I started off making dance music, like dubstep..that’s how I learned to produce and arrange…so that’s the foundation behind all those other influences.”

During the interview, Jhariah opens up that, early on, music was “that something that really challenges all of your weaknesses, insecurities” especially at the beginning of his career. This second project, however, “was like a re-debut. You know, where I felt like I had this foundation, I knew what I wanted to do, and that’s when it felt really serious, and it felt like there was an audience, or one starting to build when I felt like I found my legs with the whole thing. This new record, in a lot of ways, feels like a full-circle moment. It feels like another reinvention of the project, like a rebirth, which I think is what I’m always chasing.”

In terms of the rest of the year, Jhariah is still cooking on what’s to come—but expect fun, creative, and interesting ways to live in the world of “TRUST CEREMONY.” Due to the fact that the album was released while he was on tour, Jhariah aspires to have his album experienced through nearly every sense, saying he “wants people to experience the album in more ways, from more angles now. They’ve heard it, y’know, they’ve got it on their phone, and now I want people to experience it in real life. Live shows, events, I want people to experience it visually, because there is such a visual element with animation, with art. I even want something with food!”

No matter how Jharaiah plans for us to fully experience TRUST CEREMONY in the near future, you can have the auditory experience now by streaming the album on all major platforms.
