Blind Channel Performs Their 2021 Eurovision Track “Dark Side” At idobi Radio Studios

Blind Channel Dark Side

Recently, the Finnish nu-metal six-piece Blind Channel stopped by the idobi Radio Studios to grace our space with several stripped-back performances, including their August 2023 single “DEADZONE.” Additionally, the group stripped back their 2021 Eurovision Song Contest track, “Dark Side,” which earned them the sixth place of the competition.

The ensemble—consisting of founding members Joel Hokka (vocals), Niko Moilanen (vocals), Joonas Porko (guitarist), Olli Matela (bassist), and Tommi Lalli (drummer)—welcomed Aleksi Kaunisvesi (percussionist) in 2020. In a seamless display, the group effortlessly unravels the heavily layered track, all the while preserving its grandeur essence, bursting with thunderous production. It’s clear why the group selected this track to perform at Eurovision.

In the studio session version, the gripping core of their breakthrough single “Dark Side” remains intact, having garnered an impressive 71+ million streams on Spotify since its release in 2021. Stripping away the layers of robust electronic embellishments, the song undergoes a metamorphosis, revealing a raw, unfiltered energy that still exudes the group’s middle-fingers-up attitude, punctuated by the haunting vocals delivered by Hokka and Moilanen. Watch Blind Channel perform a deconstructed rendition of their Eurovision 2021 performance track, “Dark Side,” below.
