Five Questions With Lil' Bow Wow

Going into his ninth year in the entertainment business, pint-sized rap star Lil’ Bow Wow is branching out – more music, movies and even a clothing line. Heady stuff for someone who turned 15 on March 9. Since being discovered at age 6, the 5-foot protege of rapper-actor Snoop Dogg has set the stage for other young rappers. His teen-age fans have pushed his two albums, “Beware of Dog” and “Doggy Bag,” to platinum status. His story is old hat in hip-hop circles. In 1993 while on the Chronic Tour, Snoop pulled the boy – who was born Shad Moss… Read more »

Offspring's Noodles Comments On RAC, Bassist Has Offspring

The Offspring has been playing a few scattered shows recently. The band visited Russia and played the Recording Artists Coalition concert in Long Beach, California last month. Guitarist Noodles (real name Kevin Wasserman) wrote on the band’s website, “The RAC Is a lobbying union for musicians who, up to this point, have been painfully unrepresented as a whole when it comes to legal issues that affect us. When laws are being considered that affect musicians, especially young and new acts, the RAC will make sure that the artist’s rights are not overlooked.” He added, “I know what you’re all thinking;… Read more »

'NSYNC Tour Opener: It's The Justin And JC Show!

Lance Bass may not get to space as quickly as he’d like, but he shouldn’t worry; his band’s already in the stratosphere, and they didn’t even have to leave Portland to prove it. ‘NSYNC’s Celebrity tour kicked off Sunday at the city’s Rose Garden arena, and glitter-gelled eyelids twinkled in the night as thousands lined up for entrance, though new security measures (full bag check, metal detector wands and pocket-emptying for all) slowed things down considerably, and made not a few young girls cry, as they were forced to leave all posters, flowers and other small gifts for the boys… Read more »

Fred Durst to Testify in Fan's Case

Limp Bizkit lead singer Fred Durst has offered to testify through a video link at the inquest into a young fan’s death at a concert, but said he’s too busy to attend in person, a coroner was told Monday. Glebe Coroner’s Court is examining the death of 15-year-old Jessica Michalik, who suffered a heart attack during a crowd crush at the January 2001 Big Day Out concert in Sydney. She died five days later. A band spokesman told the court that a number of managers from Limp Bizkit’s touring group had made written statements and could testify in person, but… Read more »

Limp Bizkit’s nationwide search for a new guitarist has come to a close, and the hard rock group has invited several of its favorite picks from the auditions to continue jamming, in hopes that seeds for a new album will soon be planted. “We are so excited to bring several of the people we jammed with on the tour back to L.A. to see what could possibly become of it,” says frontman Fred Durst on the group’s official Web site. “You just never know. I am sure that this will be our best album yet.” Durst, a VP at Interscope… Read more »

'Rocket Man' Elton John Laments Pap Pop

“Rocket Man” Elton John rued on Wednesday the thrust for instant success among undistinguished and indistinguishable modern pre-fabricated pop bands. “It is like packets of cereal. There are too many of them, and too many of them are just average and mediocre,” he told BBC television in an interview filmed during his current tour in the United States. “It is just fodder. It doesn’t sound. It has no distinguishing marks. A lot of it you can’t tell one from the other. There is too much of it, just too much of it,” the high-spending flamboyant rock legend lamented. The 54-year-old… Read more »

3LW Dis Lil' Bow Wow, Leave Club With A Taller Baller

3LW’s Kiely Williams has a big smile on her face as she sits in Manhattan’s Battery Studios listening to “I Think I Wanna Leave With You,” off the trio’s upcoming second LP, A Girl Can Mack. “I wanna leave with you/ Do you wanna leave with me?” she asks with her groupmates Adrienne Bailon and Naturi Naughton on the chorus. But the girls’ frankness as they sing about scooping up guys in the club isn’t why Kiely has a look of mischief on her grill. It’s her rhyme “I hang with big dogs/ So what’s a Lil’ Bow Wow?” “I’m… Read more »

Nelly Gets Praise From Missouri

While Gov. Bob Holden and members of the Missouri House honored St. Louis rapper Nelly, some questioned whether the state should praise a group that sings about illegal drug use and sexual promiscuity. Nelly and his group, the St. Lunatics, were honored Tuesday for their promise to play basketball with high schools that showed increased participation in standardized state tests. Lawmakers and young Capitol interns were among the hundreds of fans and spectators who showed up for the lunchtime event. The Missouri State Highway Patrol sent nearly 30 officers for crowd control. Not everyone was pleased. Rep. Charles Portwood, R-Ballwin,… Read more »
