Dave Grohl Sees A Fortune In Video Directing

Dave Grohl has called his Probot side project album a death metal Supernatural, but don’t look for it to dominate the Grammys or the Billboard albums chart. “It’s not unlike the Santana record in that it really kicks ass, but it’s not the kind of thing that you’d expect,” Grohl said backstage at Saturday’s KROQ Weenie Roast. “There’s a certain kind of person that will like the Probot record, and there aren’t that many of those people…. I mean, it’s not meant to, like, make money.” Probot’s album – which features Grohl, Zwan guitarist Matt Sweeney and Foo Fighters producer… Read more »

A Chicago judge has barred singer R. Kelly from attending a Los Angeles video shoot, but the judge said on Wednesday (June 4) that he would permit the R&B superstar to travel to Los Angeles for the third annual BET Awards on June 24. Kelly has not been allowed to leave the Chicago area without permission from the court since he was indicted on June 5, 2002, after a video tape surfaced that allegedly showed the singer having sex with an underage girl. Linkin Park 'Faint' With Anticipation Over New Video

“There are few directors I trust enough to do a Linkin Park video,” the band’s DJ and resident director, Joseph Hahn, said Thursday. Mark Romanek is one of them. On the heels of Johnny Cash’s “Hurt,” the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Can’t Stop” and Audioslave’s “Cochise,” the acclaimed director is handling Linkin Park’s new single, “Faint.” The group shot the clip at the end of April with about 1,000 fans, Hahn said at the Music Video Production Association Awards. Romanek’s treatment, based around the “I won’t be ignored” portion of the song’s chorus, features the band performing and ignoring the… Read more »

Madonna has decided to withdraw the violent, anti-war video for her new single “American Life” out of respect for the troops fighting in Iraq. Photographer/ Video Director Herb Ritts Dies At Age 50

Celebrity photographer Herb Ritts, who directed videos for Madonna, ‘NSYNC, Britney Spears and others, died Thursday morning of complications from pneumonia. He was 50. In March, Ritts worked with Shakira on the video for “Underneath Your Clothes,” and last year he was responsible for the desolate apartment visuals in ‘NSYNC’s heartbroken “Gone,” the saucy bounce of Jennifer Lopez’s “Ain’t It Funny” and the sandy, sexy beach scenery in Britney’s “Don’t Let Me Be the Last to Know.” Two of Ritts’ other well-known videos similarly boasted a skillful blend of sand and sex appeal – Madonna’s “Cherish” and Chris Isaak’s breakthrough… Read more »
