Dave Matthews Band Takes It Back To The Barroom In Boston

The Dave Matthews Band hit the third city of its spring tour Sunday, settling into the sold-out FleetCenter for the front half of the run’s first two-night stand. But despite big-screen video action, the pacing and atmosphere onstage seemed more barroom than arena. The group took its time between songs and frontman Matthews asked fans, “Are you enjoying yourselves?” with the laconic drawl of his Virginia club days. The predominately young crowd eventually slipped into a similar vibe as the Matthews Band delivered a two-and-a-half-hour concert that was largely mellow and favored newer material. Widely bootlegged songs from 2000’s scrapped… Read more »

Lil' Romeo Battles His Evil Twin On B-Ball Court

Lil’ Romeo is definitely a boy of the people. In his new video for “2 Way,” he braved the indignity of soaring to new heights only to be left hanging. And for his upcoming album, Game Time, due June 4, he dug deep in the crates, looking for old records so he could put kids up on who was hot back in the days. “I sampled a little bit more on the album,” Romeo, who uses Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock’s “It Takes Two,” for the LP’s first single, “2 Way,” said Saturday. “I like sampling because a lot… Read more »

Will Smith Secures Rights To Sidney Poitier/ Bill Cosby Flicks

Will Smith may not have come up a winner at the Academy Awards, but the actor/rapper can revel in a victory elsewhere in Hollywood. He and his production company, Overbrook Entertainment, have just secured the rights to produce the remakes of the ’70s films “Uptown Saturday Night,” “Let’s Do It Again” and “A Piece of the Action,” according to a spokesperson for the company. All three motion pictures starred Bill Cosby and Sidney Poitier, who was honored at the Oscars on Sunday. The Overbrook spokesperson said it’s too early to tell when the films will come out or if Smith… Read more »

Chris Cornell Quits New Rage Project

If Rage Against the Machine fans harbored some anger before, they’re about to be really pissed. Fans hoping to catch the first glimpse of the new, Chris Cornell-fronted group on this summer’s Ozzfest will have to make do with the mental image they’ve built since the two parties began jamming together last year, as the former Soundgarden frontman has withdrawn from the project, effectively scrapping plans to participate in the annual summer metalfest. The disappointing news comes just days after the group, which had yet to settle on a name, was announced as one of Ozzfest’s mainstage attractions, along with… Read more »

The train keeps a-rollin’ for Aerosmith, the bad boys of American rock ‘n’ roll, who are working on a slew of projects before returning to the concert circuit in the fall. Light Me, Britney, One More Time

Apparently the pop princess came pretty darn close to burning down-well, not the house-but a New York City apartment building a few days ago. The tidbit comes courtesy of the latest edition of Lynne’s Corner, a diary written by Spears’ mom that appears on the singer’s Website, BritneySpears.com. According to Ma Spears’ weekly update, published Wednesday, Britney nearly torched the apartment she was staying in by leaving a candle burning while she and a pal went out. Spears was in town for a four-day vacation with one of her friends (identified only as “Jenny” on the Website). The two spent… Read more »

Five Questions With Lil' Bow Wow

Going into his ninth year in the entertainment business, pint-sized rap star Lil’ Bow Wow is branching out – more music, movies and even a clothing line. Heady stuff for someone who turned 15 on March 9. Since being discovered at age 6, the 5-foot protege of rapper-actor Snoop Dogg has set the stage for other young rappers. His teen-age fans have pushed his two albums, “Beware of Dog” and “Doggy Bag,” to platinum status. His story is old hat in hip-hop circles. In 1993 while on the Chronic Tour, Snoop pulled the boy – who was born Shad Moss… Read more »
