After teasing the cover, David Byrne has finally released his reimagination of Paramore‘s “Hard Times.” This follows the band’s take on Byrne’s classic track “Burning Down The House,” which they covered as part of the Talking Heads tribute album Everyone’s Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense via A24 Music. Both tracks will be out on April 20 for Record Store Day on a limited 12″ LP. “The band told me that their song ‘Hard Times’ was inspired by Talking Heads,” Byrne said in a Twitter post. “So I learned and recorded my version of their great song with a horn section.” Fascinatingly, this arrives… Read more »
SeeYouSpaceCowboy fans, the big day has finally arrived. The band’s 12-track Coup De Grâce is here in all its glory via Pure Noise Records. The San Diego hardcore act also dropped a new music video for “Lubricant Like Kerosene” featuring Kim Dracula. The dark, sexy video is unrelenting in its instrumentals and fearless with its hard-hitting, fiery (no pun intended) vocals—an instant classic. Frontwoman Connie Sgarbossa says of the record, “This album was a chance for us to refine some of the melodic elements we had recently introduced to the band while also playing around with all things and bringing… Read more »
Phoenix, Arizona’s shoegaze artists Glixen have just wrapped up various tour dates with Softcult, Glitterer, and fish narc, and they are back with a new heavy-hitting single, “lust.” Previously, the band released track, “foreversoon” highlighting the glow of new love. Conversely, “lust” explores new infatuation, a more superficial connection with a new person. The new track is wrapped in face-melting, fuzzy guitar riffs, which craft an awe-inspiring juxtaposition with ethereal vocals. Check out “lust” below. Lead vocalist Aislinn Ritchie says, “‘lust’ is about the yearning and wanting of somebody and the rush that that person makes you feel. It is a feeling… Read more »
Say Anything is a band that you can’t appropriately compare to any other band. Perhaps you could attempt to use metrics like ticket sales or song charting, but certainly not in any tangible sense of emotion, delivery, or downright weirdness. Say Anything kicked the doors down when they entered the scene with a huge “Fuck You” to any preconceived notion of what a “punk” or “emo” band should be. They didn’t give a shit about being a cog in the music industry machine—in fact, they were pretty loud about their despise for it. They wanted to share their passion for… Read more »
After issuing a cover of Radiohead’s “Karma Police” through triple j’s Like A Version series last year, Pierce The Veil has officially released a studio recording of the iconic 1997 track. “We are products of the ‘80s and ‘90s MTV era, so songs like ‘Karma Police’ live deep within our childhood minds,” the band shares in a press release. “We dug this one up as an opportunity to indulge in something comforting and familiar. Taking inspiration from the memories and emotions the song evokes in us, we created a version that reflects where we come from as a band. We… Read more »
Following the release of their irresistibly catchy new single “Addicted” earlier this year, Loveless has returned with their latest offering: a deeply personal and inspiring new single, “I Love It When It Rains.” “I wrote this song when my mother was sick and fighting hard,” frontman Julian Comeau candidly shares. “She had been released from and suddenly re-admitted to the hospital the day we had the session. I was terrified. I didn’t know what would happen next, but I knew I was going to be there for her no matter what. She is my biggest supporter and championed me through… Read more »
PVRIS is back with a brightly romantic single, “Oil & Water,” out via Hopeless Records. Highlighted by sultry vocals partnered with mellow guitars and layered with a continuously catchy beat, the song displays vocalist Lynn Gunn’s knack for creating a dizzyingly reflective track. Gunn says the inspiration behind the lyrics is about what you would do for a relationship. “The song is about the push and pull of mismatched love and the lengths you’d go to make it work.” Not only does she develop a sound that is intriguing and infectious, but she becomes relatable through her writing that connects… Read more »
Sometimes you just need to be straightforward. That’s exactly what Can’t Swim accomplishes across their new song, “No Backbone.” The track taps into a quick-paced pop-punk sound while still holding onto the New Jersey acts post-hardcore instrumentation. Singer Chris LoPorto says that the single was written quickly, but the band still went back to check their work. “Once we finished it, we went back a few times to see if we should add a part or bring more instrumentation/layers to the mix, but whatever we did seemed to take away from the song rather than add to it.” He continues,… Read more »
