Breeders Days Away From Completing New LP

After eight years of rest, rehab and whirlwind recording sessions, the Breeders are finally ready to make another splash in the music world. Former Pixies bassist Kim Deal and her side-project-turned-chart-topping-power-pop-band are just a few days away from completing their first album since 1993’s Last Splash. Tentatively titled Title TK, a clever reference to the journalism symbol meaning “to come,” the album was produced by über-producer Steve Albini in his Electric Audio Recording Studio in Chicago. “The record as a collection covers a lot of territory,” said Albini, who produced and engineered records for both the Pixies and Breeders, as… Read more »

Eminem's Crew Has Familiar Message: Don't Take Us Literally

Like Eminem’s last two solo albums, the debut LP from his hometown crew, D12, opens with a public service announcement. But this time, the announcer suggests that anyone offended by words like “bitch” and “faggot” should turn off their stereos immediately. “We want people to know what the f they gonna hear for the next hour,” D12’s Bizarre said, speaking from the group’s home base of Detroit last week. “It’s our own ghetto public service announcement.” The sextet asks those who keep listening to Devils Night, due Tuesday, not to draw conclusions from what they hear – a request that… Read more »

Review: Blink-182, Take Off Your Pants And Jacket

You can dismiss Blink-182 as cartoons if you like. They’re certainly not going to stop you. They even call their new album Take Off Your Pants and Jacket: Say it out loud, let your inner eighth-grader savor the cadence of the phrase. It sums up Blink-182’s wiseass brat-punk ethos almost as well as their recent live album, The Mark, Tom and Travis Show (The Enema Strikes Back), which featured the butt-stupidest stage banter since Kiss’ Alive! (Mark: “You can leave now and beat the traffic!” Tom: “Or you can stay and beat your meat!” – and they get paid for… Read more »

Lance Bass ProtÈGÈ Meredith Edwards In Sync With Country

Anyone hoping that the music industry’s infatuation with youth was just a passing fad got a big wake-up call when 21-year-old Lance Bass announced he was opening a management company last year. A member of pop group ‘NSYNC, Bass sent a message to all of the jaded industryites who refused to take young superstars seriously: they’re here, they’re hot, and they ain’t going away. That Bass’ first client would be 16-year-old country singer Meredith Edwards (she turned 17 in early March) therefore seemed somehow appropriate. Bass obviously knows something about launching teen acts; as for entering the world of Nashville,… Read more »
