Weezer shot the video for its latest single, “Dope Nose,” at Griffith Park in Los Angeles on Monday (April 8). The video was shot at night and features the band performing wearing bizarre costumes, an unorthodox drum kit, and motorcycles on display. For the clip, the speed of the film was altered-either speeded up or slowed down-to get a sort of Benny Hill effect, according to the band’s website. As the three-man DJ troupe X-ecutioners scratched through their hour-long set Monday, video images projected onto a screen above the stage. There, in grainy black-and-white, were jazz musicians straining away on trumpets and saxophones. It was an interesting choice because, like most DJs, the X-ecutioners never appear to exert themselves – their whole act is based around making daredevil wrist-flicking seem as calm as a hurricane’s eye. Steven Tyler of Aerosmith may be blasting into orbit. The Boston Globe reports that Dan Forman, a spokesman for the band, said Tyler is laying the groundwork for a trip to outer space. Forman said Tyler’s plans are similar to those of Lance Bass of ‘N Sync, who is trying to hitch a ride into space with the Russians this fall. The 54-year-old Tyler is the father of actress Liv Tyler. The large-mouthed lead singer formed the Grammy-nominated band Aerosmith in 1970. Forman did not comment on how Tyler would pay the $20 million price tag for the trip.

The seventh edition of Epitaph Records’ “Punk-O-Rama” compilation series will be released June 25 and feature 19 tracks from the likes of Rancid, Bad Religion, NOFX, Pennywise, the Hives, and Bouncing Souls. Following the series’ modus operandi, “Punk-O-Rama Vol. 7” will be specially priced at $5.98.
