Wallflowers Set To Bloom Again After Three Year Absence

The Wallflowers last CD, Red Letter Days, made little impact on the charts and their huge hit single “One Headlight” is a flickering memory. But the band will always get ink for the sole reason that Jakob Dylan is Bob Dylan’s son. At any rate, Rebel, Sweetheart will be the first release from the band since 2002. The group’s website lists a May 24 release date, with the first single “The Beautiful Side Of Somewhere” to be released to radio stations in the middle of March. The disc was recorded quickly in producer Brendan O’Brien’s Atlanta studio last year. The… Read more »

Green Day Tone Down, Tributes Shine at Grammys

Los Angeles – The 47th Annual Grammys on Sunday were long on tributes and short on controversy thanks to a self-censored performance by punk trio Green Day and Sheryl Crow ‘s peek-a-boo yellow gown, which covered just enough. The Grammys were carried live on CBS, the same network that drew fire and regulatory fines following Janet Jackson ‘s now-infamous “wardrobe malfunction” at last year’s Super Bowl. So Green Day’s performance of the group’s title song from its Grammy-winning and politically charged “American Idiot” was a potential flashpoint for controversy. But in a move apparently aimed to beat network censors, lead… Read more »

How Apple saved the music biz

The Apple iTunes store has been selling a million tracks a day, it was announced recently. And no, that is not a misprint: a million a day. This will come as no surprise to readers of this column. Quite why the music industry didn’t spot the opportunity will be the subject of innumerable MBA dissertations in the years to come. But for now the significant thing to note is that it was a computer manufacturer and not a record company that cracked the problem of providing legal music downloads. On a global scale, you might say that the inadequacies of… Read more »

Washington – A year after Janet Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction at the Super Bowl, all the excitement surrounding indecent content this year seems to be taking place in Washington, D.C.
