Corrs head line-up for Smash Hits awards


Lilting Irish group The Corrs, Australian chanteuse Kylie Minogue and U.S. band Wheatus are to play at the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party in London this year, transforming the UK awards into an international pop festival. U.S. reggae star Shaggy and Ireland’s Westlife will also feature at the pop extravaganza at the London Arena on December 9, along with homegrown Atomic Kitten and Spice Girl Emma Bunton, teenage magazine Smash Hits said in a statement. Ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney made a surprise visit to the Venice Film Festival on Tuesday to see a short film featuring his voice and music. Accompanied by his fiancee, Heather Mills, 33, McCartney arrived in the rainy lagoon city like any well-prepared Englishman, with an umbrella in hand, and posed for photographers by playing air guitar on the rolled-up umbrella. Sacramento quartet Papa Roach will enter the studio this fall to record the follow-up to last year’s debut, Infest. In the Fall of 2001, Virgin Records will release the long awaited Smashing Pumpkins “Greatest Hits” album. The tracks for the compilation are currently being selected by the band. Punk as an aid for getting in touch with one’s feelings has superseded the other modes evident at this year’s Warped Tour. As in their ordinary lives, these fans had too many options. Crows Set Fall Tour


The Counting Crows will road test material from their upcoming record when they head out on a thirty-four-date tour later this month. The road trip kicks off on August 18th in Englewood, Colorado and wraps up in Lawrence, Kansas on November 7th. Meanwhile, the Crows will continue working on their follow-up to 1999’s This Desert Life, due out next spring.
