Kelly Osbourne Tight-Lipped About Forthcoming Debut Album

Performing at Saturday’s taping of the MTV Movie Awards was “one of the worst feelings ever” for Kelly Osbourne, but stage fright won’t slow down her burgeoning music career. The pink-haired, 17-year-old starlet of “The Osbournes” revealed backstage after her live singing debut that she is scheduled to spend July and August in a New York studio recording a full-length album. Ozzy’s daughter said she’ll work with producer Rick Wake, whose résumé includes music by Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion, but she offered few other details. “I can not divulge my secrets,” Osbourne said seductively, before changing tones.… Read more »

Red Hot Chili Peppers Lack Spark At Secret London Gig – Review

England is gripped by a heady patriotic fervor these days – between the England team’s highly anticipated appearances in the 2002 World Cup and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, you can barely move without seeing a flag or banner. Yet the Brits still seem to have a little fervor left over for their American cousins, especially when those Americans happen to be the Red Hot Chili Peppers. When the Chilis took the stage for a “secret” club gig at the Garage in London on Friday (May 31), the primarily invite-only crowd erupted with an enthusiasm normally reserved for a winning goal… Read more »

Ozzfest Gets Czech Republic Roaring – Review

Strahov Stadium has had it all – communist rallies, anti-globalization protests, gymnastics exhibitions, drive-through movies and, now, Ozzfest. The crumbling structure, which stands as the largest stadium in the world per square foot, lent itself well to Ozzy Osbourne and his latest touring comrades, who hit the venue Thursday night for the seventh stop on the metal tour. With their stage parked in the middle of the field, the hard rockers used only half of the 200,000-capacity stadium, carving out an almost cozy cradle for Bohemia’s metalheads within the concrete monolith. While the tour got off to a less-than-grand beginning… Read more »

Anastasio Finds Life After Phish

Trey Anastasio spent 17 years ripping genres apart and sticking them back together at odd angles with the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink uber-jam band Phish. So maybe it’s no surprise he’s whipped up another unusual concoction: a jam/swing hybrid dotted with sugary-sweet love songs and chamber music. The self-titled release has the elements you’d expect from Anastasio, from the drawn-out, frenetic jams to the catchy guitar riffs. But it’s also a departure: It’s got horns, it’s got soul, it’s got more horns. It’s clearly not a Phish album hiding under a different name. “I’ve been listening to a lot of big band music,”… Read more »

Bush Moving On Without Founding Guitarist, Gavin Rossdale Says

Bush guitarist Nigel Pulsford’s break from touring now looks to be a permanent vacation from the band he co-founded a decade ago with frontman Gavin Rossdale. The British rockers will continue with ex-Helmet guitarist Chris Traynor instead of counting on Pulsford’s return, Rossdale said Sunday, shortly before Bush performed at Rock Im Park music festival. Traynor had been subbing for Pulsford on Bush’s tour while he spent time at home with his newly expanded family. “He didn’t get kicked out. He didn’t want to be on tour, and you can’t kick someone out that isn’t there,” Rossdale said as he… Read more »

Jack Osbourne's Favorite Metallists Meshuggah Prepare For Nothing

Swedish experimental extreme metal band Meshuggah have been praised by the mainstream music press and metal mags alike, and have cultivated a loyal underground following since their first LP, Contradictions Collapse, was released in 1991. But even the largest crowds at a European metal festival pale in comparison to the millions that heard Meshuggah on “The Osbournes” when Jack, in an effort to piss off the family’s obnoxious neighbors, blasted “Future Breed Machine” from the band’s 1995 album, Destroy, Erase, Improve. The young metal powerbroker also recruited the band to play the second stage of this year’s Ozzfest, and the… Read more »

Drug References Cut From Prodigy Single For Its Radio Debut

Spending several years away from the limelight has not changed the Prodigy. It took only one broadcast of their new single and the band that sparked debate with “Smack My Bitch Up” is already stirring up controversy. “Baby’s Got a Temper,” which debuted on Britain’s Radio 1 Thursday night, was heavily edited by the station because of the track’s many references to Rohypnol, a tranquilizer that causes muscle relaxation and memory loss and is often called the “date rape drug.” The song, which the Prodigy performed at last month’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, features Keith Flint singing lyrics… Read more »

Papa Roach Hit Road To Warm Up For Anger Management Tour

Papa Roach will warm up for the Anger Management Tour with a string of club dates and radio festivals this month and next. The rockers are playing four small venues in Northern California this week, in and nearby their hometown of Vacaville, before heading overseas for a few festivals and then returning to the States in late May. Papa Roach said earlier this year they would play some club shows to get used to performing their new music and to get in shape. “We also want to get back to where we started,” drummer Dave Buckner said. “The kids are… Read more »

Collarbone, Not Spirit, Broken As Jewel Resumes Tour Early

Her collarbone may be broken, but her spirit seems barely bruised, given Jewel’s plans to resume touring earlier than expected. She’ll return to the stage Monday for shows that looked as though they wouldn’t happen after she fell from a horse on April 24, according to an Atlantic Records spokesperson. Doctors had suggested she not perform for at least a month. The singer’s first day back in the saddle, so to speak, will be May 13 in Stuttgart, Germany. Although she’s capable of singing, she won’t be able to play guitar. Only two dates of her European tour – May… Read more »
