Avril Lavigne, Korn, Limp Bizkit and Sum 41 are the first batch of those slated to pay tribute to Metallica in “mtvICON: Metallica,” the third installment in MTV’s annual series. The artists will perform Metallica covers before an audience on May 3 in Los Angeles for the taped 90-minute special, which will air May 6 at 9 p.m. ET/PT, according to a network spokesperson. The Future of Music Coalition (FMC) has set its third annual policy summit for Jan. 5-7, 2003, at Gaston Hall on the campus of Washington, D.C.’s Georgetown University. Jam Master Jay, a founding member of the pioneering rap trio Run DMC, was shot and killed at his recording studio near the New York neighborhood where he grew up, police said. Two men were buzzed into the second-floor studio shortly before shots were fired inside its lounge at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police said. As of early Thursday, police had made no arrests. Seven weeks before Nick Carter’s debut solo album is due, his younger brother Aaron will shake up the teen scene with Another Earthquake.
