A month after Apple opened the doors to its digital music store, at least seven media and technology powerhouses have taken the starting blocks in the race to capture the PC market. Meanwhile, Apple is looking to widen its offerings through deals with independent labels. EMI, the music group that includes Capitol Records, has sued Bertelsmann AG, saying the German giant’s support of the music-swapping service Napster led to the infringement of EMI’s copyrights. The suit is similar to one brought last month by the Universal Music Group. The Limp Bizkit frontman is among the producers working on Spears’ as-yet-untitled new album, due in October, according to a Jive Records spokesperson.
