Prince Makes Rainbow Connection On New Album

After making a name (or symbol) for himself by singing about Corvettes and cream, Prince will once again use his royal platform to tackle more serious subjects, namely religion and race. The Minneapolis singer hopes The Rainbow Children will be less a typical pop album and more a conversation starter, according to his spokesperson. The album – “Last December” and “The Everlasting Now” in particular – hints at Prince’s religious beliefs. The latter track, for example, asserts that, “Accurate knowledge of Christ and the Father will bring the everlasting now.” Although The Rainbow Children, which follows 1999’s Rave Un2 the… Read more »

Warner Bros.' Prints On Prince's Music Again

The man who once wrote “slave” across his face to protest the way Warner Bros. Records was treating him probably isn’t too happy with his ex-label’s latest move. On July 31, the Warner Catalog Group will dip its paws back into the artist’s sonic real estate by releasing The Very Best of Prince via Rhino Records. When asked for comment on the release, Prince’s publicist said the purple one was unavailable. Prince Swears Off Cursing

It may be hard to believe, but the singer who once provoked shock waves with his X-rated lyrics has sworn off cursing and is preaching about the importance of virtue in the May edition of Gotham magazine. Prince, who is now a Jehovah’s Witness, said that “when you use those (curse) words, you call up all the anger, all the negatives times the word has been used before – you bring it toward yourself. Why would you want that?” Prince also told the magazine that teens need more God in their lives. “When I look at the violence, I wonder… Read more »

Prince Parties Like It's 2001

With little more than one day’s advance public notice, Prince brought his under-the-radar Hit ‘n’ Run tour to Hollywood on Friday. He may not be the commercial presence he once was, but the man (the legend) is still quite capable of tearing the roof off any joint, even the sterile Palladium – as he amply demonstrated over the course of a nearly 30-song set. “You’re about to have the best time of your life,” his Purple Badness boasted before the evening’s opening number, 1980’s disco-y “Uptown,” and then he and the latest incarnation of his NPG band delivered on that… Read more »
