Clear Channel's Big Radio Ways Are Getting a Lot of Static

Bennett Zier has a fine idea for a new radio format. His eyes light up as he tells you about it. “We play Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Bobby Darin,” he says. “The great thing about it is what we call it. You ready?” He pauses. “Vegas Radio! Is that great or what?” Zier can imagine the whole scene – the deejays, the jingles, the ironic retro-swinger patter. It’s his music, the kind he plays in his car. He’s in love with this idea, and with his natural salesman’s charm, he’s making you love it, too. So why doesn’t… Read more »

Light Me, Britney, One More Time

Apparently the pop princess came pretty darn close to burning down-well, not the house-but a New York City apartment building a few days ago. The tidbit comes courtesy of the latest edition of Lynne’s Corner, a diary written by Spears’ mom that appears on the singer’s Website, BritneySpears.com. According to Ma Spears’ weekly update, published Wednesday, Britney nearly torched the apartment she was staying in by leaving a candle burning while she and a pal went out. Spears was in town for a four-day vacation with one of her friends (identified only as “Jenny” on the Website). The two spent… Read more »

That’s right, the power-lunged singers-who each fronted the rock group during two distinct eras (party metal and adult-contemporary, respectively) and each ended up splitting from the band-have met for the first time and are now in talks to team up. Hagar broke the news this week on his official Website, RedRocker.com, saying, “Believe… Read more »

Stipe, Maal Take Giant Leap

Chris Blackwell knew he wanted to be a part of the documentary 1 Giant Leap as soon as musicians Jamie Catto (Faithless) and Duncan Bridgeman played him the rough demos of songs they’d written for the program.
