MTV's music focus too little, too late


With an emphasis on the visual over the audio, MTV from its inception has never been “about the music.” But after seeing interest in its signature trophy show wane in recent years, the network put the spotlight where it belongs for a music awards show: on the concert stage. 2007 MTV Video Music Awards: A new definition of suck


I thought about being nicer in the title of the article, but it is simply the truth. MTV tried to re-invent the awards show this year and managed to make it worse. The VMAs were moved to Las Vegas this year to try to add some new flavor to the beleaguered show. The idea was to have bands hosting parties in different rooms at the Palms. Allen still has no idea why her U.S. visa was revoked


British pop singer Lily Allen has no idea why her U.S. working visa was revoked, but she hopes she will be granted a new one for her planned September tour, her record company EMI Music said on Wednesday. Allen was detained at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday for five hours after she arrived from Australia. She was searched, but not strip searched as reported, Murray Chalmers, spokesman for EMI Music in London, said in a statement. “The authorities decided to revoke her American O-1 work visa. Timberlake, Beyonce top MTV VMA noms


Justin Timberlake and Beyonce lead the pop parade of nominees for the MTV Video Music Awards with seven nods apiece, it was announced Tuesday. Beyonce’s “Irreplaceable” was nominated for video of the year, as was Timberlake’s ambitiously cinematic “What Goes Around … Comes Around,” which co-starred Scarlett Johansson. National Product Survives Van Crash


Late Friday night while driving to Calgary the members in National Product totaled their van. Luckily everyone in the band is fine. Lindsay Lohan Leaves Rehab After 45 Days


Lindsay Lohan checked out of Malibu, California’s Promises rehab facility on Friday after more than six weeks, according to People magazine.The actress celebrated the end of her 45-day stay by soberly partying with some friends at the Pure nightclub in Las Vegas on Saturday night. She’d been scheduled to hold her 21st birthday party at the club on July 2 . Beyonce visits 2 hurt by fireworks


Two people injured when pyrotechnics went awry at Beyonce Knowles’ concert in St. Louis received a surprise emergency room visit from the singer. The accident happened Sunday night, just as the R&B star’s concert began. A spokeswoman for Scottrade Center didn’t return phone calls seeking comment, but broadcast reports said pyrotechnics meant for the stage accidentally spilled into the front row. Two concertgoers were taken to Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Spokeswoman Kathy Holleman wouldn’t release their names but said the injuries were minor. Both were expected to make a full recovery.
