Judas Priest will tour in support of Demolition, their first release since 1997’s Jugulator and second album to showcase the vocals of Tim “Ripper” Owens, which hits stores tomorrow. Owens – who replaced Rob Halford after he quit in 1993 – had previously fronted a Judas Priest cover band, and his story is the basis of the upcoming Mark Wahlberg/Jennifer Aniston movie, Rock Star. Backstreet Boy A.J. McLean has extended his time in rehabilitation for two weeks, forcing the teen-pop phenomena to postpone their North American tour for a second time, the group’s members said on Tuesday. McLean, 23, is in a 30-day treatment program for alcoholism, depression and other problems, and the group was set to return to the road next Tuesday. Tragedy struck Smash Mouth this weekend when singer Steve Harwell’s 8-month-old son, Presley Scott Harwell, died of complications from acute lymphatic leukemia. The child had been ill with the disease for only a few weeks, a publicist for the band’s label said. The group had arrived at Minot, North Dakota, Friday afternoon, and was scheduled to play a show at the North Dakota State Fair the next day when Harwell received an emergency phone call that his son had been rushed to the hospital, according to TBA Entertainment promoter Robert Romeo. Brian McKnight has been tapped to join the Sears, Roebuck and Co. family for a nationwide tour that coincides with the release of McKnight’s latest Motown project, “superhero,” streeting Aug. 28. The “Sears Presents An Evening With Brian McKnight” tour kicks off in Cleveland on Sept. 19, with stops in 38 cities, wrapping up in Hawaii in December. Orange County, California rockers Lit are nearing completion on their third full-length album, due out October 9th. Working in North Hollywood’s NRG Studios with producer Don Gilmore, who handled the band’s 1999 sophomore breakthrough A Place in the Sun as well as recent efforts from Sugar Ray and Eve 6, the group has tracked fifteen tunes and is presently knee-deep in mixing.
