While it does boast one of the most impressive festival lineups of the year, Riot Fest isn’t just about the music — it’s also home to the most punk rock carnival around. And as we prepare ourselves for the wild ride of this year’s fest, we asked ourselves a question that few have dared to ask before: what if the artists playing this year’s Riot Fest were carnival attractions?
It’s a struggle most of us have experienced with our families, at least to some degree — the parents think the kids’ music is unlistenable garbage, and the kids think their parents’ music was recorded by the first dinosaurs to ever hold guitars. But when you find those rare few bands that occupy the middle ground between everyone’s tastes, it’s a special moment that brings the family together way better than getting a pet fish ever could.

The 33rd annual CMJ Music Marathon will take place in New York City October 15th-19th. The event, which spans across 80 venues, aims to break new artists as well as feature established artists. Los Angeles – Before they made the jump to Atlantic Records in 2004, the members of Death Cab for Cutie thought long and hard about leaving Seattle’s Barsuk Records. It’s a good day for pop-punk as Avril Lavigne, Simple Plan and Billy Talent are all up for a handful of Juno awards. This year’s Juno nominees were just announced and leading the charge is Lavigne, one of Canada’s biggest international exports. She’s up for five awards including Artist Of The Year. And the stories behind new millennium band names are no less random: Yellowcard According to these So-Cal pop-punkers, “yellowcard” is a take on the ever-popular Frat house idiom, “party foul,” proving drunks can be simultaneously obnoxious and witty. Michael Jackson is probably walking around his Neverland Valley Ranch right now singing the praises of his sports world equivalent: Michael Jordan. Imagine it, Jackson, smiling, has his 1993 retro Jordan sneakers and #23 Washington Wizards jersey. Fred Durst, President of Flawless Entertainment, Senior Vice President of A&R at Interscope Geffen A&M, frontman for Limp Bizkit, music video director, producer and provoker announces the impending release of the first new artist on his Flawless Entertainment label, Puddle of Mudd. And over the last three weeks, Puddle of Mudd garnished the most adds at all three radio formats – Active, Alternative and Mainstream Rock – even though the band’s single, “Control,” wasn’t scheduled to be added to station’s playlists until next week.
