The British producer behind the hit TV show Pop Idol, which has become a hit in the U.S. as American Idol, now wants to launch a new Monkees group for television. Simon Fuller, who created the U.K. series and serves as executive producer on Fox’s TV talent show, has been talking to NBC, which aired the original series of The Monkees in the ’60s. Family, friends and surviving members of the iconic British rock band The Who attended the funeral of virtuoso bass player John Entwistle on Wednesday at a rural church. Guitarist Pete Townshend, vocalist Roger Daltrey and drummer Kenny Jones, who replaced Keith Moon after his death in 1978, attended the service at St. Edward’s Church in Stow-on-the-Wold. R. Kelly pleaded not guilty to twenty-one counts of child pornography in a Chicago court yesterday. The singer, whose real name is Robert Kelly, was indicted by a grand jury on June 5th. The charges stem from a videotape that authorities claim shows Kelly engaged in sex with an underage girl. Kelly has denied he is the man on the tape, and his attorney, Edward Genson, has said that the other person on the tape was of age at the time the video was made.
