Soon You Can Throw Darts At The Osbournes, Make Them Quack

With the success of “The Osbournes,” Ozzy and his clan seem omnipresent. It feels like you can’t go anywhere without being exposed to something related to the offbeat family. As it is for Ozzy himself, your only refuge from the onslaught is the confines of your bathroom. However, soon even that sanctuary will be ripe for some Osbourne accoutrements. The family has signed a licensing agreement with San Francisco-based Signatures Network, which will usher everything from Osbourne backpacks and beach towels to cookie jars and cell phone covers into the marketplace in the coming months, according to company CEO Dell… Read more »

Oasis Wants the Osbournes Treatment

Godfathers of Britpop Oasis have joined the stars lining up for the fly-on-the-wall treatment made famous in the hit show “The Osbournes,” which followed rock singer Ozzy Osbourne and his family. Tour-bus footage of the famously foul-mouthed Gallagher brothers has already been released and singer-songwriter Noel Gallagher told music Web site nme.com he is also keen for cameras to film his domestic life. “That would be fantastic, but how would you have breakfast with the guy with that big furry thing (the microphone boom) and someone running around after him with the cable?” he was quoted as saying. MTV’s profanity-prone… Read more »

A Burning Issue: Music Piracy And Downloads – Feature

Popular music has been upended by every technological advance from electricity and the phonograph to cassette tapes and recordable CDs. The switch from analog to digital accelerated the pace of illicit duplication and distribution, sounding the loudest alarm yet. As Napster struggles to survive, other sites from Gnutella to KaZaa are filling the void. Last week, labels and music publishers sued Audiogalaxy, a booming file-swapping network that lured 3.5 million users in March. The complaint: The Recording Industry Association of America, on behalf of labels, is vigorously seeking to stamp out proliferating Web sites that permit free downloads of music.… Read more »

Metallica Spin Out Surprise Show As 'Bob's Band'

During a recent Metallica Web chat, the band said that it would not tour with producer Bob Rock, who is playing bass with the group in the studio. That didn’t stop Rock from taking the stage with them Tuesday night during a surprise show at Kimo’s in San Francisco. Metallica were billed as Spun for the small club gig, and after taking the stage, they introduced themselves by saying, “Hi, we are Bob’s band,” reported the group’s Web site. The performance was frontman James Hetfield’s first with the band since coming out of rehab last December. He performed while seated,… Read more »

Kid Rock, Run-D.M.C. Back In The Saddle With Aerosmith

When Aerosmith tell you which way to walk this summer, they’ll be pointing at Kid Rock and Run-D.M.C., who’ll join the veteran rockers on select tour dates across the country. The collaboration is a reunion of sorts for the three acts, who played a medley of “Walk This Way,” “Rock Box” and “King of Rock” at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards. The first date of the tour is August 13 in Holmdel, New Jersey, at the PNC Bank Arts Center, and additional shows have been announced for August 22 and 24 in Mansfield, Massachusetts, at the Tweeter Center and… Read more »

Between Toilet Pranks, IMX Produce Music For Solange, Whitney, Mya

The guys in IMX promise that their Scream 2 Tour this summer with B2K and headliner Bow Wow is going to offer just as much excitement as one of those Hollywood blockbusters that drop around this time of year. However, the trio also revealed last month that some of the most action-packed and suspense-filled moments are going to take place behind the scenes at the concerts: A lot of the guys are practical jokesters and it’s going to come down to who gets who first. “They never got me,” IMX’s Romeo bragged. “[B2K’s] Lil’ Fizz is my brother, we’ll think… Read more »

Default Planning Ballad As Third Single

While Default currently has no shortage of hit singles with both “Wasting My Time” and “Deny” grabbing precious airplay, the group is already planning the third track to be featured from its debut album, The Fallout. The band will likely release the ballad, “Live A Lie,” next-that is, if it performs well back home in Canada first. Default frontman Dallas Smith said-so far, so good. “We just released ‘Live A Lie’ in Canada so we’re gonna see how that one does. Right now it’s getting a great reaction just in Vancouver, because we were home last week and we were… Read more »

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Fumiko Wasserman on Thursday ordered lawyers for Love and Geffen Records, the Universal Music label named in the suit, to first meet on June 10 with a court-assigned mediator, said Barry Cappello, Love’s lawyer, following a half-hour status conference on Thursday. “These parties have not been able to agree that black is black and… Read more »

'NSYNC's Lance Bass One Step Closer To Space: 'I Know I Can Do It'

“Let’s just say the doctors know more about me than I know about me,” Lance Bass told reporters convened for a press conference at Moscow’s Savoy Hotel. For the last four months, the ‘NSYNC star has endured a battery of physical examinations in the pursuit of becoming the next civilian in space. On Friday (May 31), he announced that he’d finally passed the medical component of qualifying for a seat on a Russian rocket mission this fall. “With such a thorough physical, you’re going to find things that you might need to take care of,” Bass said, explaining an outpatient… Read more »

Docs Clear Lance Bass For Space Ride

The world’s next would-be space tourist, Lance Bass of boy band ‘N Sync, said Friday that Russian space doctors have cleared him for a flight to the International Space Station aboard a Russian rocket, a journey he hopes to make this fall. Bass, 23, shrugged off questions about the dangers of space flight. “I like to be positive, I’m an optimist,” he told reporters in Moscow. “I know physically I can do it, I know mentally I can do it.” The Russian Aerospace Agency said earlier this week that it hadn’t yet received commercial proposals from Bass or his representatives… Read more »
