Green Day’s “Basket Case” was a staple of her live set, while her version of Metallica’s “Fuel” was performed at the mtvICON tribute to the metal band in May. “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” recorded while on tour in London, appeared on the… Read more »

My Life As A Pop Chick

What everyone always wants to know is: who’s the worst? Meaning: which really famous person out there is a berk whose lack of personality is in inverse proportion to their abundance of fame? And the answer is, of course, all of them. No, it’s not. It’s Jon Bon Jovi. The next question – who’s the best, of course – is more difficult. The interviewees I like are the ones that turn out to be more than you expected, whether that’s more intelligent, or honest, or bonkers, or fun, whatever. And there are plenty of those. Madonna (sharper), Björk (wilder), James… Read more »

Jason Mraz’s year at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy is paying off after all. In the video for his new single, “You and I Both,” the singer/songwriter puts some of his musical-theater skills to use. “I’m in love with a bank teller,” Mraz said, explaining the clip. “I’m just trying to make a deposit and I’m misinterpreted, I’m misread going into the bank when I slip her a love letter. The bank manager thinks it’s like a robbery note, he sounds the alarm, all hell breaks loose and a big dance number breaks out. You know, that’s what usually… Read more »

Grandma Sues Eminem

It’s about time Grandma finally stood up to Eminem. A 70-year-old California woman is suing the rap superstar, claiming he illegally sampled a section of music from her late husband’s film score for his 1999 debut, The Slim Shady LP, the Smoking Gun Website reports. The suit, filed in federal court last month on behalf of Harlene Stein, accuses Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers) and his mentor Dr. Dre (aka Andre Young) of swiping a 24-second instrumental cue titled “Pigs Go Home” from her hubby Ronald Stein’s composition for 1970’s Getting Straight, a flick starring Elliot Gould and Candice Bergen,… Read more »

Korn Singer Says New Album About 'Relationships And Hate'

Korn lead singer Jonathan Davis told Rolling Stone that the band’s sixth album, Take A Look In The Mirror, is essentially about “relationships and f-kin’ hate.” Davis says the band, whose last album, Untouchables, sold disappointingly, has “that spark in us again…this is a really aggressive record. More edgy. The last record we were experimenting. This album is back down to the basics and heavy grooves and getting people pumped. You’ll have a lot of screaming on this one.” Take A Look In The Mirror is due out in November. Take A Look In The Mirror is the first Korn… Read more »

For Nickelback, Success Rocks

It’s OK with Nickelback if you want to call them a pop group. In fact, pop doesn’t begin to describe the Canadian quartet’s third album, “The Long Road.” The Roadrunner set, arguably the most-anticipated global rock release of the year, is due Sept. 23 in North America and a day earlier in the rest of the world. “Somewhere along the line, people turned pop – as in ‘popular’ – into a dirty word,” says Chad Kroeger, leader of the hard-rocking band. “We want to reach the widest audience possible and let everyone know who we are.
