Creed Back In Fast Lane On Post-Accident Tour Stop

What were you expecting? A wheelchair, some crutches? Just a few months after a car accident involving singer Scott Stapp derailed Creed’s summer tour, the band is back and, seemingly, no worse for the wear. On the fourth date of the resurrected second leg of their Weathered tour, Creed preached to the converted at a nearly sold-out Polaris Amphitheater on a night when all the flames, fireworks and smoke bombs added heat to the already muggy Midwestern night. The nearly two-hour show was a no-frills affair, with Stapp slowly walking the front of the stage as he belted out one… Read more »

Ramones, Dee Dee, Made Impact On Modern Rock Heroes

Ramones bassist Dee Dee Ramone died of an apparent drug overdose in Hollywood on Wednesday (June 5). When the group was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in March, some of modern rock’s biggest stars tipped their hats to the legendary band and Ramone himself. Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder said that the group’s arrival in the late-’70s was a monumental occasion. “They were visually aggressive, four working-class construction-worker delinquents from Forest Hills, Queens, who were armed with two-minute songs that they rattled off like machine-gun fire, and it was enough to change the earth’s revolution, at… Read more »

Between Toilet Pranks, IMX Produce Music For Solange, Whitney, Mya

The guys in IMX promise that their Scream 2 Tour this summer with B2K and headliner Bow Wow is going to offer just as much excitement as one of those Hollywood blockbusters that drop around this time of year. However, the trio also revealed last month that some of the most action-packed and suspense-filled moments are going to take place behind the scenes at the concerts: A lot of the guys are practical jokesters and it’s going to come down to who gets who first. “They never got me,” IMX’s Romeo bragged. “[B2K’s] Lil’ Fizz is my brother, we’ll think… Read more »

Clear Channel's Big Radio Ways Are Getting a Lot of Static

Bennett Zier has a fine idea for a new radio format. His eyes light up as he tells you about it. “We play Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Dean Martin, Bobby Darin,” he says. “The great thing about it is what we call it. You ready?” He pauses. “Vegas Radio! Is that great or what?” Zier can imagine the whole scene – the deejays, the jingles, the ironic retro-swinger patter. It’s his music, the kind he plays in his car. He’s in love with this idea, and with his natural salesman’s charm, he’s making you love it, too. So why doesn’t… Read more »

Weezer Hitting Sheds With Dashboard Confessional, Strokes

When drummer Pat Wilson described Weezer’s latest live show tendencies recently, he separately mentioned Neil Diamond, Spinal Tap, Tool and Phish in a matter of minutes. Needless to say, the band’s summer tour should be interesting. Dates have not been announced, but Wilson and frontman Rivers Cuomo said Weezer will spend six weeks hitting amphitheaters across America with Dashboard Confessional beginning in mid-July. The Stokes will also join the bill on a couple of dates. “It’s gonna be awesome,” Wilson said. “The sound just goes. In an arena, it sounds stupid, but when we hear stuff and it goes out… Read more »

Eminem Goes 'Off the Leash' on New Album

Eminem may still be on probation for brandishing a gun two years ago in a jealous rage, but the bad-boy rap artist makes clear on his latest album how close he might have come to doing time for murder. In one of the most chilling passages from “The Eminem Show,” his anxiously awaited third release, the Detroit-based rapper recounts pulling an unloaded pistol on his then-wife, Kim Mathers, and a friend he claimed she was kissing outside a suburban Detroit bar. “The smartest (thing) I did was take the bullets out of the gun, ’cause I’d’ve killed ’em/I would’ve shot… Read more »

Eminem Raps U.S. Vice President's Wife

Bad-boy rap artist Eminem has lobbed a four-letter word at Vice President Dick Cheney’s wife on his upcoming album, but the second lady is hardly running away to a secure, undisclosed location. The Detroit-based recording star, a favorite target of Lynne Cheney in her criticism of the recording industry, unleashes the offensive word against her on the “White America” track to his soon-to-be released LP, “The Eminem Show.” She fired back through her spokeswoman, again condemning his lyrics as a “glorification of violence” against women and homosexuals. Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Bruce Mathers III, won three Grammys last… Read more »
