Staind Performs Live Only on AOL For Broadband


America Online, Inc. today announced that Staind will perform a live special edition of BroadBAND Rocks(TM), broadcast exclusively on AOL(R) for Broadband on May 17 at 8:00 PM at AOL Keyword: Staind. Metallica to Play for San Quentin Inmates


The members of Metallica are the heroes of the day at San Quentin State Prison, one of the most infamous prisons in the United States. The hard rock quartet, preparing to release its new album “St. Anger” on June 10, is shooting a video for the title track at the prison on Wednesday, and will perform an hourlong concert the following day, the group said on its Web site (http://www.metclub.com). Grohl Gets Behind Killing Joke's 'Axis'


Foo Fighters frontman/rock drummer extraordinaire Dave Grohl is showing up everywhere – his latest gig is as the drummer on the new Killing Joke album, Billboard reports in the April 12 issue. The project, which will be out in June on Sony worldwide, is tentatively titled “Axis of Evil.” Produced by Gang Of Four’s Andy Gill, the album is the veteran U.K. rock act’s first since 1996’s “Democracy.” It turns out that Grohl is a huge Killing Joke fan; he met the group’s leader, Jaz Coleman, in New Zealand recently and agreed to play on the album. Metallica, Blur, Linkin Park to Headline U.K. Fests


Metallica, Blur, and Linkin Park will headline the U.K.’s Reading and Leeds festivals this August. The events begin Aug. 22 with Leeds Festival headliner Metallica and Reading headliner Linkin Park. Linkin Park moves over to Leeds on Aug. 23, while Blur takes over headlining duties at Reading. The final day of the event will see Blur at Leeds and Metallica at Reading. MTV to Ring in 2003 With Pajama Party


The dress code for MTV’s New Year’s Eve party gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “casual chic.” The cable music channel will ring in 2003 with a pajama party, with performances from the Foo Fighters, Avril Lavigne, Busta Rhymes and Good Charlotte. Backstreet Boys Sue Zomba Seeking $100 Million


The Backstreet Boys say they are the victim of boardroom politics and are fighting back with a $100 million lawsuit against their record label. They have sued Zomba Music Group, saying the record label effectively barred the group from recording a new album because of a preoccupation with a now-completed merger with German media giant Bertelsmann AG. A lawyer for the boy band, one of Zomba’s biggest acts, said on Tuesday the group was seeking $75 million for violation of trademark, $5 million for a lost advance and at least $20 million in punitive damages in the lawsuit filed in… Read more »

Nirvana Tops 50 Million Mark In Worldwide Sales, 'Journals' Number One


Nirvana’s self-titled “best of” collection has debuted in the top 10 in more than 11 countries, pushing the total sales of Nirvana’s catalog past the 50 million mark in worldwide sales.
