Punk Bands Rock Out To Plea For Peace

Ditching the usual motive to profit through stinging ticket costs and merch fees, one 2001 tour is ready to hit the road on Aug 23 in hopes of bringing the profits back to the people, making the benefits of attendance more than just musical. “One of the primary goals is to provide youth with both the knowledge and the resources to overcome the dilemmas they face today,” the official press release for the Plea For Peace-Take Action Tour states. Founded with a charitable purpose just as fierce as the rock performances it’s delivering, the outing seems to be riding on… Read more »

Incubus To Tour In Fall

Incubus will release their fourth album, Morning View, on October 23rd. Working once again with producer Scott Litt, the band told Rolling Stone that the new material is “some of the heaviest music we’ve ever written [and] at the same time some of the most beautiful we’ve ever written.” A video shoot for the first single, “Wish You Were Here,” is planned for next month, and there will be pressure for Incubus to outdo themselves, as their video for “Drive” (from 1999’s Make Yourself) is up for Best Group Video at September’s MTV Video Music Awards. For the remainder of… Read more »

Papa Roach DVD Due In Fall

Papa Roach will release a DVD this fall. The work is intended to serve as a companion piece to their break-out, triple platinum album Infest. The DVD will be a rock-umentary of sorts chronicling the past two years surrounding P-Roach’s success. It will include behind-the-scenes footage, TV appearances and the “Last Resort,” “Broken Home” and “Between Angels and Insects” videos. The band is inviting fans to contribute their own personal VHS footage of all things Papa Roach, including live bootlegs of shows, backstage shots, themselves at a concert, or simply telling the camera what Papa Roach means to them. Submissions… Read more »

Smash Mouth Singer's Infant Son Dies

Tragedy struck Smash Mouth this weekend when singer Steve Harwell’s 8-month-old son, Presley Scott Harwell, died of complications from acute lymphatic leukemia. The child had been ill with the disease for only a few weeks, a publicist for the band’s label said. The group had arrived at Minot, North Dakota, Friday afternoon, and was scheduled to play a show at the North Dakota State Fair the next day when Harwell received an emergency phone call that his son had been rushed to the hospital, according to TBA Entertainment promoter Robert Romeo. While Harwell returned home to Las Vegas, his bandmates… Read more »

'NSYNC Likely To Outsell Everyone But Themselves

Celebrity sales projected to fall just short of record set by group’s No Strings Attached. “Dirty pop” is turning out to be huge for ‘NSYNC, though maybe not as huge as last year’s model. Four national retail chains said Wednesday (July 25) that based on first-day sales of ‘NSYNC’s new album, Celebrity, projected first-week numbers appeared to be falling just short of those for the group’s No Strings Attached, which sold 2.4 million copies in its first week last March – the highest first-week sales of the SoundScan era. But Celebrity, released Tuesday, does seem to be on course to… Read more »

Pop Acts Put Out Records Faster

Time was, pop stars who hit it big would ride out the success of an album and then lie low for awhile, presumably restoring their creative energies and also whetting the public’s appetite for the next record. Not any more. Today’s acts – wary of fickle fans and short attention spans – are pumping out albums in quick succession so as not to lose the spotlight to someone else. “Unfortunately right now, you have to just hit while you’re hot,” said teen pop starlet Jessica Simpson, who released her self-titled second album in June, a year and a half after… Read more »

When it comes to touring endurance, at least, rockers Tantric live up to the mystical promise of their name. After spending this summer out with Three Doors Down and Lifehouse, Tantric – three former members of Days of the New plus lead singer Hugo Ferreira – plan to head out once again in the fall for a headlining tour of their own, according to the band. “I’m not exactly sure who’s going to tour with us, but we’re gonna do about 40 dates,” Ferreira said Wednesday. “We’re looking forward to it all. Trey Hopeful About Phish

Baseball, barbecues and Phish on the road. Few things are more reliable each summer. Until this year. For the first time in fifteen years, Phish are taking the summer off. Will they ever get back together? “Phish had a natural life span for that period, and it ended,” says guitarist Trey Anastasio, who’s touring solo this summer. “That’s not to say that it won’t start up again, but I think everyone is happy to get a break. “Phish got to the point last year where if we didn’t get out and have a life outside of Phish, there would be… Read more »

Sugar Ray Talk About New Album

“We still like to go and bash our heads out and play really loud rock,” says Sugar Ray drummer Stan Frazier. Though best known for acoustic-flavored pop hits like “Fly” and “Every Morning,” the band grew up on a diet of California punk and Eighties New Wave, and its fourth album draws on those roots. The self-titled album, out June 12th, was recorded in Los Angeles with Don Gilmore, who has produced recent albums by Lit, Eve 6 and Linkin Park, and features a guest vocal appearance by 311’s Nick Hexum. The songs were written by all five members: Frazier,… Read more »
