Mystikal Videotaped Alleged Rape, Police Say


As Mystikal’s lawyers declared his innocence on charges of rape and extortion on Friday (July 19), authorities revealed they confiscated a video of the alleged sexual assaults from the rapper’s Baton Rouge home. The tape, which has been placed into evidence, allegedly shows Mystikal and two other men, Leland Ellis and Vercy Carter, threatening the rapper’s 40-year-old hair stylist and forcing her to have sex with them, according to Cpl. Pressplay to Promote Michael Bebel to CEO


Pressplay, the online music subscription service, today announced that Michael Bebel is being promoted to the role of president and chief executive officer. Bebel has served as chief operating officer of pressplay for more than a year and will succeed Andy Schuon, who is leaving the company to return to the radio industry. Silverchair Delays 'Diorama'


Australian rock trio Silverchair has pushed back the North American release date of its Atlantic Records debut “Diorama” to Aug. 27. The album was originally slated to be released July 9, but singer/guitarist Daniel Johns’ battle with reactive arthritis – which is preventing him from participating in promotional activities – forced the label to make the move. Slipknot Drummer Plans Side Project


Drummer Joey Jordison of the hard rock band Slipknot, is planning to release a side project this summer. Slipknot is composed of nine Des Moines-area natives known for grotesque masks and extreme metal music. The band they started in an Urbandale basement in the mid-1990s has captured two Grammy nominations and sold millions of compact discs around the world. Jordison has teamed up with Tripp Eisen of Static-X to form Murderdolls. They’ll release their debut album, “Beyond the Valley of the Murderdolls,” on Aug. 20. BMG Buys Zomba Music for $3 Billion


BMG, the music division of German media conglomerate Bertelsmann AG, announced yesterday that it has agreed to take control of Zomba Music Group, the record label that revived the teen pop genre with the likes of Britney Spears and ‘N Sync. The deal, which is estimated to be worth $3 billion, will end Zomba’s status as the world’s largest independent label. The Strokes Announce Weezer Dates


The Strokes have announced the five dates that they will open for Weezer. The band will open for Rivers Cuomo and crew starting July 15 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Silverchair Cancels Concerts


The Australian rock trio Silverchair has canceled all their upcoming concerts because lead singer and guitarist Daniel Johns is suffering from a severe case of reactive arthritis. “I am truly sorry that I am not able to do the touring we had planned for so long,” the 23-year-old said in a statement released Friday. “I apologize for the inconvenience these cancellations will cause. The world’s next would-be space tourist, Lance Bass of boy band ‘N Sync, said Friday that Russian space doctors have cleared him for a flight to the International Space Station aboard a Russian rocket, a journey he hopes to make this fall. Alien Ant Farm Singer Likely To Need Surgery For Back Injury


Alien Ant Farm frontman Dryden Mitchell remains overseas recovering from serious back injuries suffered in a bus accident in Spain last week. The impact fractured his C2 vertebra, which is likely to require surgery, according to a DreamWorks Records spokesperson.
