Sting’s special picked up seven nominations, including individual performance, and six in technical categories. America: A Tribute To Heroes, which featured Sting, and Bruce Springsteen, U2, Billy Joel, Faith Hill, Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Willie Nelson, Celine Dion, and others, earned six noms, including best program, directing, and writing in the variety, music or comedy special categories.

Another post-September 11 tribute, The Concert For New York City, which featured Paul McCartney, the Who, Mick Jagger, and others, will face off against Tribute for best special.

But it was a thrill to be there in one respect and then it was extremely sad on the othe,.” he says.

Other music-related Emmy noms include MTV’s The Osbournes, which received a nod for reality program, while Madonna ( news – web sites)’s Live: The Drowned World Tour, for HBO, earned a nomination for costumes. Billy Joel is also up for individual performance for Billy Joel: In His Own Words.
