Radio One Reports Record Results


Radio One, the nation’s seventh largest radio broadcasting company (based on 2000 pro forma revenue) today reported record results for the quarter ended June 30, 2001. Net broadcast revenue was $62.3 million, up 91 percent from the same period in 2000. Broadcast cash flow was $34.0 million, an increase of 106 percent from the same period in 2000 while the broadcast cash flow margin improved to 54.7 percent from 50.4 percent. The dog is ready to bark again. DMX is gearing up for the September 25 release of his fourth album, now titled The Great Depression, with two video shoots in eight days. Madonna 'Swept Away' To Star In Husband's Movie


After being swept off her feet by her husband, British filmmaker Guy Ritchie, Madonna has agreed to star in his next movie, “Swept Away.” The pop superstar will play Raffaella, a rich woman who goes on a yachting vacation in the Mediterranean and becomes romantically involved with a communist sailor after they are shipwrecked, according to a spokesperson at Ritchie’s production company, SKA Films. Beatle Harrison Denies 'Imminent Death' Reports


Former Beatle George Harrison, who has been battling cancer, said on Monday that reports of his imminent death had been exaggerated. The reclusive star, responding to weekend press reports that his health was fading fast, said in a statement that he was “active and feeling very well.” Harrison and his wife Olivia said through a statement released in London that they were “disappointed and disgusted” by the reports. Ex-Beatle Harrison Reported Battling Cancer Again


Former Beatle George Harrison is reported to have received treatment at a Swiss cancer clinic – his third battle in the past few years against the disease. Just over 18 months ago, the 58-year-old guitarist and singer survived a life-and-death struggle of a different kind, when a knife-wielding intruder stabbed him in the chest at his home near London. Bertelsmann Faces The Music Amid Layoff Reports


German media giant Bertelsmann’s shakeup of its flagging music division looks set to continue with U.S.-based subsidiary Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG) reportedly looking to lay off hundreds of employees in its efforts to cut costs and raise profits. Rumors followed the appointment last week of former BMG Germany chief Thomas Stein to head BMG’s European division.
