Pepsi has a new affiliation with a hot, rising music star. But this time, Apple Computer’s iTunes is shoving aside the likes of Britney Spears and Beyonce. The soft-drink giant plans to give away 100 million downloads from iTunes next year and plug the service in a Super Bowl commercial. The relationship between Pepsi and Apple – the brainchild of Interscope chief executive Jimmy Iovine – is an effort to drive consumer interest in the iTunes service, which is now available for Windows-based computers. Canadian rockers Simple Plan will release their new DVD/EP titled A Big Package For You on November 25. The three-hour DVD contains footage of the band shot over the last three years, including backstage footage, bloopers, outtakes, live performances, and interviews. Avril Lavigne and the Neptunes are going to each release a DVD later this year, under a deal Arista Records has made with Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Lavigne’s DVD is of a live concert, and the Neptunes are releasing a straight-to-DVD movie. Lavigne’s My World is her first live concert DVD, and it features behind the scenes footage, five music videos, and a bonus six song CD. Led Zeppelin has agreed to let one of their songs be used in the soundtrack for the upcoming film School Of Rock-but only because its star, Jack Black, asked personally. According to the studio, Black-who makes music with the comical rock act Tenacious D-stepped in after School Of Rock director Richard Linklater was unable to get permission to use “Immigrant Song.” Black reportedly sent a humorous videotaped request for the song to the three surviving members of Led Zeppelin, who subsequently gave their approval.
