PJ Harvey Wins British Music Award, Stranded In US


PJ Harvey won Britain’s most prestigious popular music award on Tuesday, but was unable to accept it in person after being stranded in the United States following devastating attacks on New York and Washington. The British singer-songwriter told the Mercury Award ceremony in London by telephone from Washington: “It has been a very surreal day. Weezer Set New Dates

Mariah Carey Postpones Television Interview


Pop star Mariah Carey, who was hospitalized for a nervous breakdown last month, has postponed an ABC television interview she had been scheduled to give this week, network officials said Wednesday. The interview with Barbara Walters, which was due to air Sept. 12 on the ABC news magazine show “20/20,” has been put off indefinitely, an ABC spokesman said. XM On Schedule For Commencement Of National Rollout Sept. 12


XM Satellite Radio today announced that the first-ever AM/FM/XM satellite radio shipments began arriving in the United States in preparation for the company’s September 12 launch of its satellite radio service. The service features 100 digital- quality channels including 71 music channels, of which more than 30 are 100% commercial-free. In addition, XM will offer 29 news, talk, sports and entertainment channels. The company expects that in December of this year, there will be 100,000 XM radios available at more than 6,000 electronics retailers nationwide ready for the important holiday season. MP3.Com Blamed For 'Viral' Copyright Infringement


A new lawsuit filed against MP3.com seeks to hold the San Diego music-locker service liable not only for songs it improperly copied and distributed, but also for every bootleg track exchanged through Napster and other underground file-swapping services. The suit, filed on behalf of 52 independent songwriters and music publishers, accuses MP3.com of “viral” infringement.
