The Killers prepping live DVD, covers album

Las Vegas rock band the Killers, in the middle of a world tour to promote their third album, plan to release a live DVD later this year. “We’re working on some ideas for what will be our first DVD,” drummer Ronnie Vannucci said. “We’ve been kind of hounded about it for a while, and haven’t really thought we were due for it yet, but I think it’s time. I think we’re approaching the moment of DVD mass hysteria.” That’s not all the band is currently working on. In addition to tinkering around with songwriting ideas for its next Christmas single,… Read more »

Eminem’s pill popping 'Relapse' cover hits the Web

This is evidently the stunning cover of Eminem’s Relapse, courtesy of our favorite hip-hop blog Nah Right. The artwork features a portrait of Slim Shady sculpted from pills of assorted shapes, sizes and colors. T.I. utilized a similar technique for his Paper Trail cover, but where Relapse is a mosaic created out of medicine, Paper Trail is a collage composed of ripped-up memos and folded dollar bills. It might be a little hard to read, but that sticker on the lower-left hand corner of the cover is in fact part of the artwork. It reads “Mathers, Marshall, 8 Mile Road,… Read more »

Jonas Brothers unveils new album cover

That’s no Abercrombie & Fitch advertisement – according to the Jonas Brothers’ official fan site and the band’s pre-order page, it’s the cover for the JoBros’ new album, Lines, Vines and Trying Times, out June 15th.  While the trio’s previous album, A Little Bit Longer, put the band in suits and a rain-soaked fluorescent-bulb-lit cityscape, Lines, Vines finds the casual Jonas crew leaning over what it is undoubtedly a pick-up truck. Essentially, they did a reverse Kings of Leon. These are “trying times,” as the title of the album and our wallets suggest, so the boys have scaled back on… Read more »

No Doubt go new wave with 'Stand and Deliver' cover

“Stand and Deliver,” the first song recorded by the reunited No Doubt, leaked yesterday, nearly a month before the band was due to perform the song on a flashback episode of Gossip Girl. Like No Doubt’s cover of Talk Talk’s “It’s My Life,” Gwen Stefani and her bandmates manage to take Adam & The Ants’ “Prince Charming” hit and skew it both more modern and more new wave. Stefani replaces Ant’s thick British vocals from the original with her own valley girl cadence, befitting of the band’s role as early 1980s Los Angeles rockers on Gossip Girl. That episode, a… Read more »

EMI.com relaunches as music discovery lab

After several months of open rumors, EMI has relaunched its flagship web site as a music discovery destination.   While direct purchase will be enabled soon, the real purpose of the site is voyeuristic.   The company wants to watch and learn as consumers search for, discover, enjoy and purchase music from the EMI roster. “It will help us gain even more knowledge about consumers’ preferences,”   says EMI exec Alex Haar. “Those insights will be invaluable to our artists, helping them respond to fans in a more relevant way. This is the beginning of a longer term experiment.”  … Read more »

British scientists discover how to turn women's bone marrow into sperm

British scientists are ready to turn female bone marrow into sperm, cutting men out of the process of creating life. The breakthrough paves the way for lesbian couples to have children that are biologically their own. Gay men could follow suit by using the technique to make eggs from male bone marrow. Researchers at Newcastle upon Tyne University say their technique will help lead to new treatments for infertility. But critics warn that it sidelines men and raises the prospect of babies being born through entirely artificial means. The research centres around stem cells – the body’s ‘mother’ cells which… Read more »
