MTV Visits Southern Towns For New Show


MTV, known for “The Real World” series, is ready to turn its cameras on small town, U.S.A. Producers of a new reality series, tentatively titled “Sex in the Itty Bitty City,” will hold auditions in Columbus, Miss., on Jan. 7; Hope, Ark., on Jan. 9; and Opelousas on Jan. 11. The documentary-style show will feature women 18 to 30 years old who are looking for a husband. Springsteen Delays More Concerts


Bruce Springsteen (news) is postponing two more concerts because E Street Band saxophone player Clarence Clemons is recovering from surgery for a detached retina. A concert scheduled Saturday in Columbus has been moved to Dec. 16, and a Sunday show in Indianapolis has been rescheduled for Dec. 17, according to Springsteen’s Web site. Clemons, 60, underwent surgery after a show Monday night in Houston, causing a Wednesday performance in Austin to be postponed until March 2. Vines To Hit The Road In November


The Vines will return to the road next month in support of their gold-certified debut album, Highly Evolved. The Australian rockers have lined up 14 shows in the Northeast and Midwestern parts of the country, beginning November 19 in Philadelphia. The dates are being packaged as the MTV2 Handpicked Tour. The Vines’ Capitol Records labelmates the Music will serve as the opening act. The British band’s debut album is due in February, 2003. Christian Music Reports Record Sales


Merging several styles into Christian music has helped increase its audience and sales and attract young listeners, industry leaders say. “The music is amazing and refreshing,” Dale Baker, a marketing representative with EMI Records, told the Chillicothe Gazette. “You’ve got every style in there: rap, hard rock, dance, everything.” Christian music sales increased 13.5 percent in 2001 and 18 percent through the first seven months of this year, the newspaper reported in a recent series. White Stripes Finish New Album, Playing Free New York Show


The White Stripes will hit the dead leaves and dirty ground of New York’s Union Square on Tuesday to play a free show. The noon performance is the latest in a series of guerilla concerts staged by Nissan. Train played the first gig, in St. Louis on September 17, followed by Pink in Chicago, Eve in Philadelphia, Dashboard Confessional in Boston, Enrique Iglesias in Brooklyn and Cheap Trick in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Guns N' Roses Announce First U.S. Tour In A Decade


W. Axl Rose will exhibit his appetite for reconstruction when Guns N’ Roses re-emerge for their first U.S. tour in nine years with many new band members and a batch of new material. The first date of the group’s trek will be November 7 in Vancouver at General Motors Place. Sheryl Crow Lines Up Solo Tour, Shoots Leather-Packed Video


Sheryl Crow looks to make it an endless summer with a string of headlining dates that will carry her into October. The shows are her first solo outings to promote her latest platinum album, C’mon, C’mon. They will follow five weeks of dates on the Jeep World Outside Festival with Train, Ziggy Marley and O.A.R., which wrap on August 17.
