VH1 Rocking with Revamp


Newly installed VH1 toppers Brian Graden and Christina Norman are moving quickly to put their stamp on the struggling music cable network, greenlighting an aggressive fall slate of series and specials aimed at building on the channel’s still-strong retro music brand. VH1 is also beefing up its “Movies That Rock” franchise, snagging the broadcast premiere of the Oscar-winning “Moulin Rouge” and several other theatricals. Music fans weren’t quite ready to vacate “Nellyville” this week, as the sophomore album from St. Louis rapper Nelly stood strong against a heady debut from funk-punk foursome the Red Hot Chili Peppers and held on to the top spot for the third week running. Sales of “Nellyville” (Universal) slipped 24% to 340,000 units, according to data compiled by Nielsen SoundScan, but the album still managed to top 1.5 million in total sales after less than a month out. Snoop Dogg Fined For Marijuana Possession


Glazed-eyed rapper Snoop Dogg might want to avoid Cleveland when he’s drawing up tour itineraries – he’ll wind up in the slammer next time he’s caught there holding a bag. On Tuesday, Snoop, a.k.a. Calvin Broadus, pleaded no contest in Ohio’s Oberlin Municipal Court to possession of marijuana, a fourth degree misdemeanor, and was fined $250 plus court costs, which totaled $398.30. New music from the Dave Matthews Band and Counting Crows plus a bizarre collaboration between David Bowie and Adam Sandler highlight the RCA soundtrack to Sandler’s forthcoming film, “Mr. Deeds,” due June 11. Newsted, Fans Feel 'Wicked Good' At Echobrain Tour Launch


No-Cal scenesters, local yokels, friends and even fans of Jason Newsted’s old band showed up in force to witness the launching of Echobrain’s first tour at an all-ages show at the Mystic Theatre. Echobrain, with drummer Brian Sagrafena and singer/guitarist Dylan Donkin, is Newsted’s first steady gig since leaving Metallica in January 2001. Backstreet Boy Explains Arrest


Backstreet Boy Nick Carter said he was simply “in the wrong place at the wrong time” when he was arrested at a Tampa, Fla., nightclub. “I ain’t a bad person.
