A week after the compilation Rock Against Bush Vol. 1 was released, a sequel to the politically minded compilation is taking shape. The Foo Fighters will contribute their cover of “Gas Chamber,” a song originally recorded by L.A. punks the Angry Samoans, which appeared as a B-side to the Foos’ 1996 CD single “Big Me.” The original tune appeared on the Angry Samoans’ second album, 1982’s Back From Samoa. Fresh off a stint on the Big Day Out tour of Australia and New Zealand, the Strokes have unveiled plans for a six-week spring outing in the United States, with an excursion to Mexico City. Dates get underway March 9 in Washington, D.C., and are confirmed through April 25 in Minneapolis, although Strokes manager Ryan Gentles told Billboard.com the tour is expected to run through May 19. R.E.M. made unique chart history today with “In Time: The Best Of R.E.M. 1988-2003” debuting at #8 and #16 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, the first time the same album debuts twice in the Top 20 in the same week. Weezer has delayed the special edition reissue of its self-titled 1994 debut album, according to the band’s official web site. A DVD of the band’s history has also been pushed back. Both items were originally due out by the end of this year, but will now probably surface in 2004, due to what a posting on the site called “overall schedule planning at the record label.” The new edition of Weezer is expected to emerge as a double-disc set, featuring an elaborate booklet, lyrics, liner notes, B-sides, rarities, and some previously unheard material. White Stripes singer/guitarist Jack White plays guitar on the debut single from Detroit alt-country act Blanche, called “Who’s To Say.” The seven-inch, 45 R.P.M. vinyl disc can be ordered directly from Blanche’s label at cassrecords.com. The White Stripes themselves covered the tune on the B-side of their single, “I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself.” Blanche’s full-length debut album, If We Can’t Trust The Doctors… is due out in January of 2004.
