Pop singer Jewel broke her collarbone and a rib when she was thrown from a horse at her boyfriend’s ranch Wednesday. Britpop a Flop in the United States – Officially

It’s official – Britpop is a flop in the United States, with not a single act on the U.S. industry barometer Billboard chart for the first time in nearly 40 years. Pop pundits insist that the disappearance of UK acts from Billboard’s top 100 singles chart is just a blip, but it follows a long decline in sales which critics say reflects the flood of manufactured bands on both sides of the Atlantic. Long gone are the days when bands like the Beatles dominated the U.S. singles charts. In 1964 the Fab Four held the top five singles in the… Read more »

Kid Rock Accused Of Biting '80s Synth Tune For 'Cowboy'

Cowboys have to deal with the hazards of subduing charging bulls, getting their spurs caught in their lassos and keeping cold bottles of beer from exploding during especially rigorous horse rides. Some, like Kid Rock, also have to contend with copyright infringement lawsuits. Relatively unknown songwriters Brian Chatton, Nico Ramsden, Nick Richards and Jeff Seopardi, who recorded under the name Boys Don’t Cry, are suing the maverick rocker over his 1998 song “Cowboy,” contending that it plagiarizes their 1986 synth-pop track “I Wanna Be a Cowboy,” which reached #12 on the Billboard singles chart. On April 17, Microhits Music Corp.,… Read more »

Lenny Kravitz Tickles Pink For Summer Tour

Lenny Kravitz must be a firm believer in the theory that says a simple, direct approach is most effective. Why else would he call a tour to support his latest album, the rather uncomplicatedly titled Lenny, anything other than the decidedly descriptive Lenny Live? For his first full-scale North American road trip in almost three years, Kravitz, following a European tour and fueled by his current single, “Stillness of Heart,” is set to visit 33 cities beginning July 12 in Virginia Beach, Virginia, according to his publicist. The nearly two-month jaunt winds down September 2 in Phoenix. The last time… Read more »

R.E.M.'s Buck Cleared Of Air Rage Charges

R.E.M.’s Peter Buck was cleared of all charges alleging he behaved badly on a trans-Atlantic flight last April. An Isleworth Crown Court in London found the guitarist not guilty Friday (April 5) of assault, being drunk on an aircraft and damaging airline dishes, plates and other meal-service items, according to a court spokesperson. Buck waited with wife Stephanie and bandmates Michael Stipe and Mike Mills for the jury to render its verdict, which came after a five-and-a-half-hour deliberation. Buck, 45, was aboard a British Airways flight from Seattle to London on April 21 when he was accused of displaying drunken… Read more »

Rush's Return Is Personal For Drummer Peart

Ernest Hemingway once described courage as “grace under pressure.” Rush drummer Neil Peart liked the phrase so much that he used it as the title of the band’s 1984 album. Now, having experienced devastating family tragedy and a subsequent rebirth, Peart has become the living definition of courage. In 1997, the drummer’s 19-year-old daughter died in a car accident. The following year, his wife Jackie passed away from cancer. At that point, Rush had just released their third multi-disc live album, Different Stages, and the band took an extended hiatus to allow Peart time to heal. Now, five years after… Read more »
