Time Warner Inc.’s $2.6 billion sale of Warner Music Group to an investor group led by former Universal media conglomerate chief Edgar Bronfman Jr. was completed Monday, and the newly formed independent music company began an anticipated wave of cuts by ousting three high-ranking label executives, sources said. Atlantic Records co-chairman Val Azzoli and president Ron Shapiro stepped down, as did Elektra Records chief executive Sylvia Rhone, a source close to the company said on condition of anonymity. Kid Rock Revs Up Tour Bus for 2004


Fresh from the November release of his self-titled album, Kid Rock is preparing for an arena tour in 2004. The trek will begin with a Jan. 22-23 stand in Saginaw, Mich.; 11 dates have been confirmed so far, through Feb. 14 in Raleigh. Jewel Cancels Tour After Death of Bassist


Jewel has canceled her North American tour due to the death of her bass player, her record company announced Thursday. Terome “T-Bone” Hannon died Sept. 4 after suffering a stroke. Drexel Starts Student-Run Record Label


Sony, Universal and Warner Bros. have nothing to worry about, but a university known more for churning out engineers than hit music is starting its own record label. Drexel University’s MAD Dragon Records expects to put out its first CD – a compilation of eight or nine bands – next year.
