Papa Roach's 'She Loves Me Not' Inspired By Marital Strife

The inspiration for “She Loves Me Not,” the first single from Papa Roach’s upcoming album, Lovehatetragedy, didn’t come easy to frontman Jacoby Shaddix. The track is about his sometimes-turbulent relationship with his wife, Kelly, who recently gave birth to their first child, Makaile Cielo Shaddix. The chorus, which includes the lines, “I don’t know if I care/ I’m the jerk/ Life’s not fair/ Fighting all the time/ This is out of line/ She loves me not,” illustrates the stress of trying to juggle your relationship and your band. “I feel like anything I do is just not enough,” Shaddix, formerly… Read more »

Aimster Legal Woes Grow

File-sharing network Aimster has been slapped with two new copyright infringement suits – one on each coast – even as it continues its battle with the record industry. Six major film studios – Disney, MGM, Paramount, Sony, 20th Century Fox and Universal – filed suit against the upstate New York-based Netco in District Court for the central district of California. A separate complaint, filed in Manhattan District Court by Time Warner, is pending. In its complaint, the studios alleged that the Netco seeks “to supplant Napster as the preferred forum for the illegal copying and distribution of copyrighted works.” The… Read more »

Funding Woes Break Musicbank

Digital music provider Musicbank closed its doors Tuesday night because of a lack of funding. About 40 employees have been let go. Musicbank, which was set to offer a streaming service similar to MP3.com’s my.mp3.com music storage system, launched as a company in June. It had received on-demand digital streaming licenses from the five major label groups – Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, EMI, BMG Entertainment and Sony Music – as well as the music publishers. The service, which was in a beta test, was set to launch this year. “Recent legal rulings and market conditions added to the… Read more »

EMusic Adds To Napster Woes

Online company EMusic is joining the music industry’s fight against Napster by filing its own copyright-infringement suit against the file-swapping company. The suit, filed late Tuesday in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, accuses Napster of contributory and vicarious copyright infringement and unfair competition. EMusic is seeking statutory damages of $150,000 per infringed use and has asked for a jury trial. EMusic’s unfair competition claim alleges that Napster, by offering downloads for free, has caused EMusic “substantial injury,” including loss of customers and profits. EMusic offers unlimited downloads of its catalog to users who pay $9.99 a… Read more »

Olivia Rodrigo Asks “bad idea right?” On New Pop Rock Anthem

Seeing him tonight is a bad idea right? Olivia Rodrigo has shared her second single “bad idea right?” from her upcoming sophomore album GUTS out September 8th. In all its pop-rock glory, the new track is nothing short of an absolute BANGER. Starting off with a grungy guitar riff, you are immediately transported into the attitude-filled, tongue-in-cheek world that Rodrigo has perfected. It is snotty, clever, and feels like a shit-eating grin of a track. Olivia Rodrigo basically talks the verses, in a smug, self-satisfied fashion. She is doing something she shouldn’t, making a probable mistake, but frankly doesn’t care.… Read more »

Threads Is The New App Everyone Is Talking About

Will Threads be the new hottest social media platform? It is always hard to tell in the early days. Sometimes new platforms take over the world and have a really great run, others last a few years before fizzling out, and others, unfortunately, fail completely. So which will Threads be? Once upon a time, we all thought that MySpace was the only platform that mattered. Then we were obsessed with Tumblr. Both sites eventually became less enticing than their more successful competitors. Facebook took Myspace’s place and has really stood the test of time. Even though it isn’t popular among… Read more »
