Rapper DMX enters not guilty plea

DMX has pleaded not guilty to felony drug possession and misdemeanor animal cruelty charges. A judge entered the plea for the musician-actor (real name: Earl Simmons) at a brief court hearing Thursday. Simmons was late for court. The 37-year-old rapper was indicted last week on 11 counts, including felony marijuana and paraphernalia possession and seven counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. The charges stem from an August raid by authorities investigating if he was neglecting 12 pit bulls at his Phoenix home. Some were dehydrated and appeared to be underfed. Three were found buried in his back yard. The rapper has… Read more »

Ruling on Madonna adoption bid is postponed

Madonna won’t know until next week whether a Malawian boy she found in an orphanage in 2006 will become a permanent member of her family, her lawyer said Wednesday. Lawyer Alan Chinula had expected the judge to rule on the adoption Wednesday but said the hearing was delayed after a Malawian human rights group presented arguments on “shortcomings” in the southern African nation’s adoption laws. Chinula said the group was not challenging the adoption and he expected it to be approved next week. The pop star and her husband, film director Guy Ritchie, were not present at Thursday’s hearing in… Read more »

As former President Jimmy Carter nailed down the front porch of a home under construction Wednesday, singer Harry Connick Jr. gave an update on the progress being made in the Upper 9th Ward, an area slow to recover from Hurricane Katrina. The two are supporters of Habitat for Humanity, and both expressed their excitement about the organization’s construction of houses in this section of the city, where block after block of flooded-out homes still sit vacant on lots with overgrown grass. “To be part of this rebuild is thrilling,” said Connick, who took his 12-year-old daughter, Georgia, to the construction… Read more »

The lawsuit was originally filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, then moved to federal court. After having traveled more than 3,000 miles, spent nearly 100 hours trapped in their hotel rooms and survived roughly 76 borderline terrifying interactions with mobs of screaming fans to get to this very moment, the fate of Fall Out Boy’s record-setting trip to Antarctica came down to a very small number: one. To be more specific, one percent, as in “there is a 1 percent chance the weather on Antarctica will cooperate and allow us to land there on Thursday,” which is what organizers of the trip were telling the band and their management late Wednesday night. On Thursday morning… Read more »
