AOL Time Warner to Drop 'AOL' From Name


As of Thursday, the world’s largest media company will officially drop “AOL” from its name and be known as “Time Warner Inc.,” as it was before it announced a merger with America Online at the height of the Internet boom in early 2000. The company’s shares will also resume trading under their former ticker symbol of “TWX” on the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday, instead of the current “AOL.” The company will also change its Web site to www.timewarner.com from www.aoltimewarner.com. Coming soon to a Windows PC near you: Apple Computer Inc.’s. popular iTunes online music store, which analysts say will join an already crowded market that could mute its chances of repeating the success of the Macintosh-only version. New Pay Version of Napster Service Debuts


Nearly a year after software maker Roxio Inc. scooped up the Napster brand from the ashes of the pioneer file-swapping service, a revamped online music store bearing the familiar brand name debuted Thursday in limited release. The company shelved its former online music service, pressplay, and began moving subscribers to a beta, or test version, of Napster 2.0. Hanson Releasing Next Album On Their Own Label


Hanson, who parted ways with Island Def Jam in May, announced on Wednesday the formation of their own 3CG Records label, which will issue their new album, Underneath, in the spring. Underneath will contain several songs that Zac, Isaac and Taylor Hanson have already issued on their Underneath Acoustic EP, currently on sale via their Web site. The fresh-faced trio’s first single will be “Penny and Me,” produced by Don Henley associate Danny Kortchmar. Courtney Love Rushed To Hospital For Drug OD Following Arrest


Police responding to a burglary call arrested Courtney Love in Los Angeles early Thursday morning for allegedly being under the influence of narcotics, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department. Hanson to Play Carnegie Hall


Hanson will bop into Carnegie Hall for the final show of their acoustic tour. The trio, whose 1997 hit “MMMBop” helped launch the boy band craze of the late ’90s, will perform there Nov. 8, they announced Wednesday. Tickets go on sale Thursday. The Island Def Jam Music Group has signed multi-platinum recording artist, Everlast, it was announced today. Everlast is currently in the studio working on his third studio album (Title: TBD) tentatively set for an early 2004 release. Deftones Yank Bootlegs From Website, Hoobastank From Tour


The Deftones were forced by their record label, Maverick Records, to remove 49 live bootleg recordings from their website. Singer Chino Moreno told MTV.com, “I think Maverick got mad because they own all that music…it was our idea to put it up there, but I think we were maybe supposed to ask permission or something.” The bootlegs, recorded at various shows in 1992, 1995, and 2000, were available for free downloading at the site, but abruptly disappeared about three weeks ago.
