Simple Plan Shoot Sober Video With Drunk-Driving Plot

Perhaps Simple Plan and Good Charlotte will spend their upcoming co-headlining tour discussing the works of existentialist Jean-Paul Sarte or decrying the appointment of ultraconservative Paul Wolfowitz as the head of the World Bank. Because, wow, both groups have gotten plenty serious all of a sudden. It all started last week, when Good Charlotte filmed the woe-is-the-world video for their new single, “We Believe”. And now Simple Plan are upping the angst ante with the clip for their new single, “Untitled.” In the video – directed by Marc Klasfeld (Sum 41, Thursday) – the normally rambunctious Montreal pop-punkers are tackling… Read more »

The “American Idol” final twelve (Photo: Kevin Winter) For the first time in “American Idol” history, the producers have called a revote. After incorrect voting phone numbers were displayed during the performance recap at the end of Tuesday’s show, the producers decided to throw out all of the votes and ask “Idol” viewers to revote Wednesday (March 23) night, a FOX spokesperson said late Tuesday. While the phone numbers that spell out IDOLS were correct for all contestants, the phone numbers listed in all numerals below the IDOLS number for contestants Mikalah Gordon, Anwar Robinson and Jessica Sierra were incorrect.… Read more »

U2 Not Sweatin' To The Oldies On Upcoming Tour

If you thought digging deep in your wallet for some pricey U2 tickets guaranteed admittance to a career-spanning, greatest hits-style show – well, it may not be in the cards. The Irish superstars have been hiding out in Vancouver’s GM Place, rehearsing and readying to embark on their upcoming tour, but a fan website managed to get ahold of one of the band’s practice setlists and it’s largely composed of new material. Despite having more than two decades of musical goodness to draw from, the U2 rehearsal set heavily favoured their newer material. Of the 21 songs, seven came from… Read more »

NY Rocker L.P. at SXSW the Real Deal

Austin, Tx – There’s SXSW, the annual music biz spring break that’s been attracting talent from all over the world since 1987. Then, there’s the underground festival, not publicized as such, but the one where bands that didn’t achieve one of the chosen slots appear. This is the more interesting of the two. Merit certainly has nothing to do with who gets to appear at the more traditional festival. L.P., a NYC rocker with Marc Bolanesque curls and an amazing set of pipes is a glaring example of this. L.P.’s crafty manager Andrew Krents hustled a 3-night stand at the… Read more »

Court Throws Out 'American Idol' Claim

Houston – An appeals court has upheld dismissal of a man’s claim that a television network stole his idea for the hit show “American Idol.” A federal judge in 2003 dismissed Harry Keane Jr.’s claim without hearing it and ordered him to pay Fox Television Stations Inc.’s legal fees of nearly $130,000. Keane’s attorneys had argued before the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that Keane deserved a trial, but the court disagreed Thursday. Keane, of Irving, said he came up with the show in 1994, and that he sent material to Fox outlining his concept in 1998. “American Idol”… Read more »

'Apprentice' Viewing Party a Den of Sin

Derrik J. Lang – Bad Language was a bad apple in a bunch of good-looking apples at a Garden of Eden-themed “Apprentice” viewing party Thursday night, ably hosted by that music network that’s not MTV. Good and evil partygoers feasted on chicken skewers and crab cakes amid pillars infused with vines and forbidden fruit. An array of rejects from the past two seasons fought for attention among Fuse video jockeys, Michael Imperioli, a contortionist and a snake lady. Although Audrey “I wanted to scar my face because I was so beautiful!” Evans giggled with a gaggle of attendees, Stacie “I’m… Read more »
