Jam Master Jay an Unlikely Target

As one of the forefathers of rap, with a history of social activism, Run-DMC’s Jam Master Jay was an unlikely target for the kind of violence that killed rappers Tupac Shakur or the Notorious B.I.G. He was married with three kids, and a fixture in the Queens neighborhood where he grew up. Yet authorities were searching Thursday for the gunman who killed the 37-year-old disc jockey with a gunshot to the head inside his recording studio. “Jam Master Jay was a longtime family man and one of the founders of the group that knocked down all the doors for hip-hop,… Read more »

New Creed Video Looks Like Salvador Dali Meets 'Star Wars'

Don’t blame the surreal imagery in Creed’s upcoming “One Last Breath” video on the painkillers Scott Stapp is taking for his injured neck and back. And when he explained his ideas to director David Meyers, the two had a meeting of the minds. “We found out that we both have a love and affection for [surreal painter Salvador] Dali that we didn’t know we shared,” Stapp said. “I wrote my treatment for the video and sent it to Dave, and then he added his… Read more »

Marcel Avram, of German promotion company Mama Concerts and Rau, claims he was promised the job of promoting Jackson’s next world tour after fulfilling his side of a written contract, drafted in 1998, that required him to pay doctors in Germany “several thousand dollars” on Jackson’s behalf, according to Avram’s attorney Skip Miller. When Avram heard that Jackson was making arrangements with another promoter for an as-yet-unannounced tour, he filed his complaint for anticipatory breach of contract,… Read more »

Manson Responds To Protest

Despite protests from a local organization, Marilyn Manson claims that he will indeed be performing at the Denver stop of the Ozzfest summer tour, and he promises a “wholesome Bible reading” during his performance. “I am truly amazed that after all this time, religious groups still need to attack entertainment and use these tragedies as a pitiful excuse for their own self-serving publicity,” Manson wrote in a post on his official Web site. “In response to their protests, I will provide a show where I balance my songs with a wholesome Bible reading. This way, fans will not only hear… Read more »
