Wilco’s long-rumored split with Reprise Records is official, and the Chicago-based group is actively shopping their fourth, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, in an attempt to get the record released by the end of the year. The dispute over the album began in June, when Wilco delivered a finished copy to the label and it was rejected by a pair of A&R men. Free City, from the St. Louis-based hip-hop group The St. Lunatics (comprised of 6x platinum rapper Nelly, Ali, Kyjuan, Murphy Lee and Slo Down), landed at #1, while Hot Boys member Turk’s long-awaited solo offering, Young & Thuggin’, grabs the #2 spot. Russ Thyret is expected to resign as chairman of Warner Bros. Records next month, making it the first hit in the anticipated shakeup at the music group. The departure of the 30-year Warner Music veteran has been grist for the rumor mill since last summer.
