They’ve already finished their next record and they won’t be hitting the road with Kiss for another three weeks, so Aerosmith have been keeping busy with various side projects. Last week frontman Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry contributed music to a piece that Public Enemy’s Chuck D wrote for the introduction to the ESPY Awards. Former Limp Bizkit Guitarist Compares Group To New Band


While former Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland thinks he will soon find a lead singer for his new outfit Eat The Day, Borland does not believe that his new band will ever be as big as Limp Bizkit. Borland, who recently traveled to England in the ongoing search for a vocalist for Eat The Day, said in an interview in Kerrang! magazine that he has narrowed down the list to three potential frontmen. Nielsen SoundScan to Report Digital Music Sales


Nielsen SoundScan on Wednesday said it will start tracking digital downloads of music from commercial online services as sentiment for music on the Web brightens with successful offerings like Apple Computer Inc.’s iTunes music store. Nielsen Soundscan, a unit of Nielsen Entertainment, which is owned by VNU NV,, provides weekly retail music sales information that serves as the basis for the popular weekly Billboard Magazine music charts. Music Labels Step Up Internet Piracy Hunt


The embattled music industry disclosed plans Wednesday for an unprecedented escalation in its fight against Internet piracy, threatening to sue hundreds of individual computer users who illegally share music files online. The Recording Industry Association of America, citing significant sales declines, said it will begin Thursday to search Internet file-sharing networks to identify music fans who offer “substantial” collections of MP3 song files for downloading. It expects to file at least several hundred lawsuits seeking financial damages within eight to 10 weeks. Celebrity To Shoot Music Video


Doghouse Records recording artists, Celebrity, will be shooting a video for the song, “Disconnected,” in Los Angeles this weekend with director Darren Doane (Jimmy Eat World, Far, Thursday). The band kicks off the first of two summer tours on July 8th in Claremore, OK, with Noise Ratchet, Copeland and the Rocket Summer. On August 3rd, they will head back out on the road with Glasseater and Bayside. In addition, Celebrity will be touring with The Juliana Theory in September and October. Music Biz Files Piracy Suits Vs. 18 Retailers


The Recording Industry Assn. of America, the trade group of the major U.S. record labels, said Monday it has filed suit against 18 retail businesses for selling pirated CDs. The lawsuits, which were filed last month in Texas, Florida and New York, mark the latest move by the recording industry to combat piracy and declining record sales. Best Buy Sheds Troubled Musicland Group


Electronics retailer Best Buy Co. said Monday it has shed its troubled Musicland Group, turning it over to Sun Capital Partners, a Florida-based private investment company. Best Buy shares rose. Sun Capital Partners paid no cash but assumed all of Musicland’s liabilities including its lease obligations. Musicland operates around 1,100 Media Play, Sam Goody and Suncoast stores across the country. Best Buy said in March that it planned to sell the group. Richfield-based Best Buy paid nearly $700 million for Minnetonka-based Musicland two years ago, but the group failed to meet Best Buy’s expectations, especially in consumer electronics sales.
