idobi managing editor Eleanor Grace checked in with Nick Santino at the Toronto date of this summer’s Vans Warped Tour to talk about going solo, his former band A Rocket To The Moon’s beginnings and eventual end, the importance of fan connection, and much more.
For their No Sleep Records debut, Major League were able to pull out all of the stops. While they may still be a relatively new band, Hard Feelings easily has the potential to become a classic and will find the band moving up to the big leagues of pop punk.
The nonstop party that is the life of Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee for about the past 20 years gets cranked up several notches on his upcoming solo album, Tommyland: The Ride, which is due in August. And although he knows it’s a cliché, he swears the album is the best thing he’s ever done. “It’s true, this is the best thing I’ve ever done!” Tommy yelled from a stop on the Mötley Crüe reunion tour. “I mean, people will be like, ‘Is that f–ing Tommy?’ It’s like an event record.” That much is true, as Tommy has invited a… Read more »
Despite prolonged major success for Nickelback and projects linked to its frontman, Chad Kroeger, the Canadian rockers don’t look to be slowing down any time soon with promoting its multi-platinum album, Silver Side Up. The group has a new single and accompanying video with the song, “Never Again,” a live DVD in the works, and tour dates now scheduled worldwide through December. Nickelback once again collaborated on both the video and the DVD with Nigel Dick, who directed clips for the band’s two previous singles, “How You Remind Me” and “Too Bad.” Kroeger said that the concept of the DVD… Read more »
Roughly one month after the tragic death of his close friend and former bandmate Layne Staley, Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell returned to the town that made them both famous, and despite the feeling that a big hole existed where his former partner once stood, it was a rocking, if bittersweet, trip back in time. With plenty of classic AIC material in tow, Cantrell took a sparse but enthusiastic audience at Key Arena on Friday back to the halcyon days of the early ’90s – a time of lank hair, big angst and bigger guitars, before the Bizkit and its… Read more »
Songstress Sheryl Crow is on track to be the highest debut performance when the latest pop album charts are released Wednesday, challenging reigning Universal Music labelmate Ashanti for the top spot. But Crow’s latest effort, “C’mon C’mon,” her first studio release since the platinum “Globe Sessions” four years ago, also leads a sizable roster of artists bowing this month that have had a rocky history with the rapidly consolidating major-label system. Crow herself was one of several artists to question her future with Universal Music after the label giant acquired her alma mater, A&M Records. While the star and her… Read more »
Judging by the number of cars bearing Canada license plates around Michigan State University’s Breslin Center on Tuesday, it was clear that Vancouver’s Nickelback were going to feel right at home. Fans waved maple-leaf flags around the venue before the Campus Invasion show, which also featured performances by Starsailor, Injected and Nickelback protégées Default. Others sat atop their rides shouting pro-Canada slogans. Stepping onstage to sweeping, cinematic music, Nickelback kicked off their set with “Woke Up This Morning.” Singer/guitarist Chad Kroeger was obviously pleased with Nickelback’s newfound multiplatinum status – he grinned incessantly as fans punched their fists in the… Read more »
With a sound that blends ’90s grunge with polished pop, it’s probably safe to assume that Nickelback spent their high school years listening to Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains. So, aside from the fact that they’re now labelmates, it’s easy to understand why Nickelback asked Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell to open a bunch of dates for them this summer. The tour will kick off May 13 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the jaunt will pass through many major West Coast, Midwest and Southern cities. During the tour, Nickelback and Cantrell will perform at Country Jam USA… Read more »
Over the past week there were explosive developments concerning the fate of American Taliban member John Walker Lindh, imploding energy company Enron and president Bush’s problems with pretzels, but very little has been changing on the album chart. That means Creed’s Weathered will hang on to the #1 slot of next week’s Billboard 200, giving the band a solid two-month run as top dogs. Linkin Park will hold tight at #2 with Hybrid Theory as they embark on their last tour before working on new material, Ludacris will remain steady at #3 with Word of Mouf and Nickelback’s Silver Side… Read more »
With their second album perched at #10 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and their most recent single, “How You Remind Me,” topping the Modern Rock Tracks chart while sitting in the top 10 on five other Billboard charts, Nickelback are demonstrating an across-the-board appeal that confirms these Canadians have arrived in the U.S. And with a new single from Silver Side Up and a new video waiting just around the bend, the band isn’t likely to disappear anytime soon. “Too Bad” officially hits radio this week, though many stations have already been playing it. Veteran director Nigel Dick shot… Read more »
