Britney Avoids Vice, Justin Talk, Anything New At Sin City Tour Opener – Review

In the city of sin, Britney Spears behaved. There was no dissing of Justin Timberlake during the opening night of the second leg of the Dream Within a Dream Tour. No cigarette smoking. No… whatever vice the rumor mills have her doing this week. Things may have changed in Britney’s well-chronicled life since the last time we saw her onstage – and that’s only if you believe the gossip – but there were no signs of it Friday at Mandalay Bay. The 20-year-old headliner was the same pop princess she was at 19. Nearly every part of Spears’ 90-minute show… Read more »

Stone Temple Pilots Saddle Up With Rhinestone Cowboy

The thought of anyone from block rockers Stone Temple Pilots working with Rhinestone Cowboy Glen Campbell might at first seem as absurd as porn star Jenna Jameson advocating abstinence. On further examination, it doesn’t seem so bizarre. STP bassist and songwriter Robert DeLeo has spoken in interviews about his love for the country-pop performed by Johnny Cash, Jimmy Webb and especially Campbell. And last year, Campbell’s budding musician son Cal introduced his dad to the music of the Pilots. Soon after one of Campbell’s Los Angeles shows, the band went backstage and met the legendary singer/songwriter. They all got along… Read more »

Eminem Goes 'Off the Leash' on New Album

Eminem may still be on probation for brandishing a gun two years ago in a jealous rage, but the bad-boy rap artist makes clear on his latest album how close he might have come to doing time for murder. In one of the most chilling passages from “The Eminem Show,” his anxiously awaited third release, the Detroit-based rapper recounts pulling an unloaded pistol on his then-wife, Kim Mathers, and a friend he claimed she was kissing outside a suburban Detroit bar. “The smartest (thing) I did was take the bullets out of the gun, ’cause I’d’ve killed ’em/I would’ve shot… Read more »

Lance Bass of ‘N Sync is competing with a former NASA official for the next seat on a Russian spacecraft. Dmitry Malashenkov, spokesman for Russia’s Institute of Biomedical Problems, said Tuesday that Bass and ex-NASA employee Lori Garver were undergoing medical tests at the Moscow center to evaluate their fitness for space travel. They must spend time in a pressurized chamber and undergo a centrifuge test to determine how their bodies would respond to the spacecraft’s liftoff. The results will be forwarded to a state commission, which will deliver a final report on both candidates’ fitness, Malashenkov said. Russia’s space… Read more »

Ozzy's Ratings Low In Germany As P.O.D., Lenny Kravitz Thrill Festival – Review

You know you’re a long way from home when Groove Armada and Faithless play for wilder crowds than the godfather of heavy metal. “I can’t f-ing hear you!” is Ozzy Osbourne’s standard concert rallying cry, but it took on a new urgency Friday night at the kickoff of the three-day Rock Im Park festival in Nuremberg. As the 53-year-old showman peered out at the half-full Frankenstadion, his famous baffled expression – mouth agape, black-lined eyes open wide, arms extended as though desperately soliciting a hug – looked a bit more confounded than usual. Of course the metal madman delivered, leading… Read more »

Jerry Cantrell Delivers Bittersweet, AIC-Heavy Set At Nickelback Gig – Review

Roughly one month after the tragic death of his close friend and former bandmate Layne Staley, Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell returned to the town that made them both famous, and despite the feeling that a big hole existed where his former partner once stood, it was a rocking, if bittersweet, trip back in time. With plenty of classic AIC material in tow, Cantrell took a sparse but enthusiastic audience at Key Arena on Friday back to the halcyon days of the early ’90s – a time of lank hair, big angst and bigger guitars, before the Bizkit and its… Read more »
