Ellen DeGeneres Joins Call to End Cancer

The upcoming Stand Up to Cancer benefit is beginning to look like the Oscars, the Emmys and the Grammys rolled into one. I just got word that newlywed Ellen DeGeneres has signed on to work the phonebank during the live telecast of the fundraiser on Sept. 5. The talk-show pooh-bah isn’t the only new name added to the roster… Halle Berry, Jessica Alba, Kate Bosworth and Rob Lowe will also be answering phones. And that’s just a smidgen of the previously announced participants, who include Christina Applegate, Jennifer Aniston, Charlize Theron, America Ferrera, Meryl Streep, Kirsten Dunst, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Scarlett… Read more »

The Jonas Brothers invade NYC

Quiet time is a rarity for the Jonas Brothers these days. Following a special performance for more than 500 screaming tween and teen girls at Apple’s downtown Manhattan store on Tuesday night, the brothers – Kevin, 20, Joe, 18, and Nick, 15 – huddled in a stairwell, trying to find a quiet space to conduct an interview with The Associated Press. Good luck with that. Even as they spoke, their words were almost drowned out by deafening, doglike shrieks from girls still trying to find a way to get at their idols, who have set off a boy-band pop craze… Read more »

Timbaland delivers tirade at party

People’s all-star, pre-Grammy concert with Timbaland ended with a resounding crash when the superproducer and rapper delivered a foul-mouthed tirade against the magazine because some of his friends were apparently left outside the venue. With a blinged-out cross dangling from his neck, a sweaty Timbaland addressed the crowd at the Avalon Club just after finishing a high energy set with longtime muse Missy Elliott, capping a night of performances from acts such as Chris Cornell, Grammy-nominated band Paramore and One Republic in front of a crowd that included Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Ludacris. “Next time I have one of… Read more »

Jonas Brothers' heartthrob pop thrills tween crowd – Review

It may have been Super Bowl weekend, but the big event for thousands of mostly tween-age girls had nothing to do with football. Instead, all eyes at the Gibson Amphitheatre were focused on three relative rookies known as the Jonas Brothers, who played three sold-out shows there this weekend. After selling out their first show at the 6,000-seat theater in a two minutes — the fastest sellout in the venue’s 36-year history — the Jonas Brothers added two more shows that also sold out. Not quite as impressive as Garth Brooks’ recent five shows in two days at Staples Center,… Read more »

The superstars-in-the-making have every day mapped out for the next 24 months. If you’re not a tween/teenage girl or don’t live in proximity to one, you may not yet be in on the phenomenon created by 20-year-old Kevin, 18-year-old Joe and 15-year-old Nick. They opened for Miley Cyrus on her fall “Hannah Montana” tour to the delight of shrieking girls everywhere. Their song, “S.O.S.,” catapulted to No.… Read more »

Hannah Montana caught using body double

It was ever so brief, but the use of a body double by Miley Cyrus on her sold-out “Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus ‘Best of Both Worlds’” tour is creating plenty of buzz. A video posted on YouTube shows the 15-year-old entertainer as “Hannah” dancing onstage with a group of dancers and the Jonas Brothers, also on the tour. During the song, someone ushers her offstage via a trap door. Immediately, another girl dressed like the character “Hannah” in the same pink trench coat with blonde hair covering her face dances around, runs up the stage set, and then quickly leaves. While… Read more »

Hannah Montana Suit Something to Talk About

Hannah Montana fans are getting the best of both worlds, leaving the less entertaining aspects to the show’s lawyers and publicists. A lawsuit brought against the Disney Channel by an award-winning comedy writer who claims he pitched the original idea for Hannah Montana and was never compensated for his efforts was referred Friday to mediation in the hope that the two sides can cut a deal. Buddy Sheffield sued parent company ABC Cable Networks Group on Aug. 23, alleging breach of implied contract, breach of confidence, unfair competition and unjust enrichment. He is seeking unspecified damages. ABC Cable has denied… Read more »
