Straight from mainstream radio into your CD player, the sixth installment of Sony/Epic’s compilation series “Now That’s What I Call Music!” blasted its way to the top of the album charts this week, knocking late rapper Tupac Shakur back into the hereafter. “Now 6,” as it’s commonly called, sold more than 525,000 copies for the week ended Sunday, according to rankings data from SoundScan. ‘NSync was the top musical act at the seventh annual Blockbuster Entertainment Awards Tuesday (April 10) night at L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium, winning Favorite CD (No Strings Attached), Favorite Single (“Bye, Bye, Bye”), and Favorite Pop Group. The major music categories were mostly split, however, with a poodle-haired Christina Aguilera snagging Favorite Female Artist, Eminem taking Favorite Male Artist, and Destiny’s Child walking off with Favorite Group of the Year. Fred Durst says he can help explain the violence plaguing America’s schools with his upcoming filmmaking debut, “Runts,” about a high school outcast. “Crazy things are happening that don’t need to be happening, and people are retaliating in the wrong way,” the Limp Bizkit frontman said. “This movie needs to happen now.” But the film is still far from hitting theaters. Interscope Records founder Ted Field has ankled the label he co-chaired for more than a decade to start his own record label and continue in his film endeavors. Field’s parting, which comes a year before the expiration of his contract, is nevertheless said to have the blessing of Interscope co-chairman Jimmy Iovine and Doug Morris, chairman of Interscope parent Universal Music Group.
