It is fitting that Limp Bizkit fans chose “Boiler” for the band’s next single, as Fred Durst and the boys have been boiling mad lately. Hard economic times are forcing music artists to become more self-sufficient in their efforts to find success in mainstream markets. That was one of the harsh realities coming out of “The View From the Helm,” a high-powered panel session Thursday at the South by Southwest music conference. Eminem’s hotly debated duet with Elton John at this week’s Grammys is turning up on radio stations across the country, and the Recording Academy and Interscope Records are making plans to release the live “Stan” as a benefit single, an academy spokesperson said Friday (February 23). A portion of the proceeds will benefit MusiCares, established by the academy in 1989 to offer emergency financial assistance and addiction recovery programs to musicians. Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya, and Pink have hooked up for a cover of LaBelle’s “Lady Marmalade” for the soundtrack to Moulin Rouge. The track, produced by Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott and Rockwilder, will be the first single from the Interscope Records soundtrack to the film, due April 24. In addition to “Lady Marmalade,” the album also includes tracks by Beck, Fatboy Slim, Timbaland, and Ozzy Osbourne, among others.
